In some extreme cases, you may need to edit your system registry and remove the folders in a two-part process. This will remove all traces of Origin from your system for a completely blank slate.
Just a reminder: these steps are more advanced than the Control Panel uninstall. Editing your computer's registry or files incorrectly can severely damage your operating system. If you are confident that you can edit your registry successfully, then follow the instructions below.
Important! You need to fully close Origin before you uninstall it.
- Quit out of the Origin client.
- Open up Task Manager on your computer. To do that, press your CTRL + ALT + Delete buttons all at the same time, then click Task Manager.
- In the Processes tab, check to see if there are any Origin processes still running. They would be called OriginWebHelperService or OriginClientService.
- End any of the still-running Origin processes you see. This will make sure Origin is fully closed.
Now you can follow these steps to uninstall Origin:
First, remove the Origin client files:
- Select Computer from the Start menu.
- Select the C: drive.
- Select the Program Files folder. On 64-bit systems it’s called Program Files (x86).
- Right-click the Origin folder and select Delete.
Next, back up your Windows registry:
- Hold down the Windows key and press R.
- Type regedit at the Run command and select OK.
- Select File.
- Select Export.
- Under Export Range, select All.
- Choose a location and name for the backup file, then select Save.
Third, remove your Origin registry keys:
- From regedit, expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder.
- Expand the SOFTWARE folder.
- Expand the Wow6432node folder.
- You might see multiple Wow6432node folders; find the one with an Origin folder in it.
- Right-click the Origin folder and select Delete.
- Expand the Microsoft folder.
- Expand the Windows folder.
- Expand the CurrentVersion folder.
- Expand the Uninstall folder.
- Right-click the Origin folder and select Delete.
Last, remove your Origin program cache:
- Select Computer from the Start menu.
- Select the C: drive.
- Select the ProgramData folder.
- If this folder doesn’t appear, press Alt, select Tools > Folder Options > View, then check Show hidden files, folders, and drives.
- Right-click the Origin folder and select Delete.
Completing these steps should completely remove the Origin client from your system.
