Find out how to add a Security Key to your SW:TOR account for extra security, and how to remove it if you’re having sign-in issues.

Your SW:TOR Security Key provides an extra layer of game account security. When you have a Security Key attached to your account, you'll use a code from an authenticator app each time you sign into the game. This code is a time-sensitive, randomly generated number that acts as an additional password to further protect your account.

Google Authenticator is the recommended verification option, as it’s the most up-to-date Security Key available for SW:TOR. Once you’ve set up a SW:TOR Security Key, use Google Authenticator to generate the code needed when you sign into SW:TOR.

The SW:TOR Security Key App and the SW:TOR Physical Security Key are no longer supported as verification methods. We recommend switching to Google Authenticator if you currently use either of these as a SW:TOR Security Key.

  1. Download Google Authenticator.
  2. From a browser, sign in to your account on swtor.com.
  3. Choose the Overview tab and scroll down to the Security section.
  4. Select Add Security Key. We'll send a One-Time Password to your SW:TOR account’s registered email address. If you don’t see the email in your inbox after a few minutes, check your spam/junk folders.
  5. Enter the One-Time Password from your email.
  6. On your mobile device, open Google Authenticator and select Add a code, or tap the plus sign (+) in the bottom right corner.
    • To set up your Security Key using a QR Code, select Scan a QR Code. Then, head back to the Security Key Setup page on swtor.com. Scan the QR code displayed using Google Authenticator.
    • To set up your Security Key using your SW:TOR serial number, take note of the serial number displayed on the Security Key Setup page of swtor.com. Then, select Enter a setup key on Google Authenticator. Choose a name for the key (for example, SW:TOR) and enter it under Account. Enter the serial number under Key. Tap Add.
  7. Google Authenticator will now generate a time-sensitive code for SW:TOR. Type this code into the box under your serial number on swtor.com and select Save.

A coral dash box surrounds the input field for adding a code from a mobile security app.

Be sure to copy your serial number and keep it somewhere safe. It’s only available during the Security Key setup, and you might need it if you need to contact us for help.

You might need to remove your SW:TOR Security Key if:

  • you’re using a verification method that’s no longer supported, such as the SW:TOR Security Key App or the SW:TOR Physical Security Key,
  • your Security Key stopped working,
  • you've lost or upgraded the mobile device you had your Security Key authenticator installed on.

To remove your Security Key from your account, do the following.

  1. Go to www.swtor.com and select Account.
  2. Enter your display name and your password. Leave the Security Key box empty, and select Sign in.
  3. We’ll ask for your Security Key Code. Under the Security Key Code box, choose Lost your Security Key?
  4. Instructions will appear on how to remove your Security Key. After you’ve read them, select Request a One-Time Password.

  5. Check your email for the One-Time Password. We'll send it to the registered email address of your SW:TOR account.
    • If the email isn’t in your inbox after a few minutes, check your spam/junk folders.
  6. Enter the One-Time Password exactly as it appears in your email into the box on swtor.com.
  7. Tick the Confirm removal of your Security Key box and select Remove Security Key.

Once you’ve removed your Security Key, you’ll no longer need it to sign into the game and website. However, you might be asked to enter One-Time passwords when signing in.

If you’re running into issues while trying to sign in using your Security Key, try the following.

  • If you’re using verification methods that are no longer supported (such as the SW:TOR Security Key App or the SW:TOR Physical Security Key), download and use Google Authenticator instead.
  • When signing in, check that you’re using the email account that’s linked to SW:TOR and your Security Key.
  • Make sure you enter the code from your Security Key app within the expiration time. If you take longer than the allotted time, you may need to try again. Google Authenticator allows you 30 seconds to enter each generated code.
  • If you’ve checked all the above and are still having issues, try removing your key from your account and reattaching it.
