Learn how to uninstall The Sims 3 and its Expansion and Stuff Packs from your Mac or PC. You can remove them right through Origin or manually.

The easy way Manual uninstall

Using Origin (the easy way)

First, launch Origin. Click on The Sims 3 or The Sims 4 tile in your Game Library. Then:

  1. Click the cog by the Play button.

  2. Select Uninstall.


  3. Click Yes.


Just like that. It's gone!

If you have any issues with the above method, here’s how to uninstall it from your device directly:

On PC

  1. Open the Start menu, then the Control Panel.
    • You can search for Control Panel to find it.
  2. Go to Uninstall a program under Programs.
  3. Here you’ll find the base game and all of the Expansion and Stuff Packs you have installed on your computer. Click on the one you want to remove then click Uninstall/Change.
    • You can also right-click to see Uninstall/Change.
  4. Let the installer do its work. Once it’s done, click OK.

On Mac

Use the Uninstaller in The Sims 3 Applications Folder to remove all your Expansion Packs, Stuff Packs, and the base game.

After you do that, follow these steps for your OS:

Leopard/Snow Leopard:

  1. Open a Finder window.
  2. Click on your Home/User folder (This should be the one with the icon of a house).
  3. Open the Library folder.
  4. Open the Preferences folder.
    • Delete Cider Preferences folder, if it’s there.
    • Delete The Sims 3 Preferences folder.
    • Delete any files that have Transgaming in the name.
    • Delete any files that have Sims in the name.

Lion/Mavericks/El Capitan/Sierra:

  1. In Finder, click on your hard drive (usually Macintosh HD unless you renamed it).
  2. Click on Users, then on your username.
    • On older Macs, this could be called Places.
  3. Open the Library folder..
  4. Open the Preferences folder.
  5. Delete Cider Preferences folder, if it’s there.
  6. Delete The Sims 3 Preferences folder.
    • Delete any files that have Transgaming in the name.
    • Delete any files that have Sims in the name.
  7. Click on the Go menu again and choose Back or see step 3 to return to the Library folder.
  8. Open Saved Application State folder.
    • Delete any files that have Transgaming in the name.
    • Delete any files that have Sims in the name.

If you remove Expansion and Stuff Packs, the content you used in-game will be removed, too. When possible, it will be replaced with similar content from other installed Packs.

Here's how to manually uninstall The Sims 3.

Don’t forget to back up your saved games!

For PC (discs)

Delete the game files (in the default location):

  1. Click the Start button and select My Computer.
  2. Select the Local Disk (C:) drive folder.
  3. Select the Program Files folder.
    • For 64-bit, select Program Files (x86).
  4. Select the Electronic Arts folder if installed from the disc.
  5. Right-click on the folders of the packs you want to uninstall and select Delete. If you want to uninstall the base game, delete The Sims 3 folder, too.
    • You need to delete the packs if you want to uninstall the base game, since the packs won’t work if you remove the base game.

For the next steps, you’ll be editing your registry. Changes you make here can have serious effects on how your computer behaves. Please follow our steps exactly, or contact us if you’d like more help with them.

Backup your registry:

  1. Hold down the Windows key and press R.
  2. At the Run command, type in regedit and select OK.
  3. Click on File and then Export...
  4. Choose a location and name for the file. This will be your backup registry file.
  5. Click Save.

Delete these registry keys:

  1. Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder.
  2. Expand the SOFTWARE folder.
  3. For 64-bit systems, expand Wow6432Node.
  4. Expand the Sims folder.
  5. Right-click on the folders of the packs you want to uninstall and select Delete.
    • If you want to uninstall the base game, delete The Sims 3 folder, too.
  6. Collapse the Electronic Arts folder.
  7. Expand the Sims folder.
  8. Right-click on the folders of the packs you want to uninstall and select Delete.
    • If you want to uninstall the base game, delete The Sims 3 folder, too.
  9.  Collapse the Sims folder.
  10.  Expand the Microsoft folder.
  11.  Expand the Windows folder.
  12.  Expand the CurrentVersion folder.
  13.  Expand the Uninstall folder.
  14. Each  Expansion Pack for The Sims 3 has the same name. They look like this: {C05D8CDB-417D-4335-A38C-A0659EDFD6B8}_The Sims 3 [pack name will be listed here].
  15.  Collapse the Microsoft folder.
  16.  Expand the Classes folder.
  17.  Delete the following folders if they appear butonly if you are uninstalling the base game:
    • .Sims3
    • .Sims3Pack
    • Sims3
    • Sims3Pack

Delete the uninstall files:

  1. Click the Start button and select My Computer.
    • If you’re on a previous version of Windows, you can access My Computer by holding the Windows logo + E on your keyboard.
  2. Select the Local Disk (C:) drive folder.
  3. Select the Program Files folder.
  4. Follow these instructions on how to show hidden folders for your OS version.
  5. Select the InstallShield Installation Information folder.
  6. Delete the following folders if they appear.
    • {C05D8CDB-417D-4335-A38C-A0659EDFD6B8} – Base game
    • {BA26FFA5-6D47-47DB-BE56-34C357B5F8CC} – The Sims 3 World adventures
    • {71828142-5A24-4BD0-97E7-976DA08CE6CF} – The Sims 3 High end loft
    • {910F4A29-1134-49E0-AD8B-56E4A3152BD1} – The Sims 3 Ambitions
    • {ED436EA80-4145-4703-AE5D-4D09DD24AF5A} – The Sims 3 Fast Lane
    • {45057FCE-5784-48BE-8176-D9D00AF56C3C} – The Sims 3 Late Night
    • {117B6BF6-82C3-420C-B284-9247C8568E53} – The Sims 3 Outdoor Living
    • {E6B88BD6-E4B2-4701-A648-B6DAC6E491CC} – The Sims 3 Generations
    • {7B11296A-F894-449C-8DF6-6AAAA7D4D118} – The Sims 3 Town Life
    • {C12631C6-804D-4B32-B0DD-8A496462F106} – The Sims 3 Pets

Now, restart your PC and The Sims 3 and/or the packs you were uninstalling should now be completely removed from your system.

For PC (Origin)

Delete the game files (in the default location):

  1. Click the Start button and select My Computer.
  2. Select the Local Disk (C:) drive folder.
  3. Select the Program Files folder.
    • For 64-bit, select Program Files (x86).
  4. Select the Origin Games folder if installed via Origin.
  5. Enter The Sims 3 folder.
  6. Right-click on the folders of the packs you want to uninstall and select Delete.
    • If you want to uninstall the base game with all its expansions, then delete the entire The Sims 3 folder, too.
    • You need to delete the packs if you want to uninstall the base game, since the packs won’t work if you remove the base game.

    • Sims3
    • Sims3Pack

Now, restart your PC and The Sims 3 and/or the packs you were uninstalling should now be completely removed from your system.

For Mac

  1. Delete the /Applications/The Sims 3 folder (or any for a Stuff or Expansion pack).
  2. Delete the /Users/"User"/Library/Preferences/The Sims 3 Preferences folder.
  3. Delete the /Users/"User"/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 folder only if you are uninstalling the base game.
    • Note: This file can be saved as a backup to retain save games. Just rename it and you’re good to go.
