Learn how to unlock and master the Gourmet Cooking skill in The Sims 4. From elegant recipes and skill rewards to wedding cakes and cheats, this guide covers everything your Sim needs to cook impressive gourmet dishes and level up faster.
About the Gourmet Cooking skill
- The Gourmet Cooking skill comes with The Sims 4 Base Game, and is a 10 level skill.
- Elder, Adult, Young Adult, and Teen Sims can all build this skill.
- If you own The Sims 4 My Wedding Stories Game Pack, Sims can make wedding cakes once they reach level 5 of this skill.
- The following Lot Traits can help build this skill:
- Chef’s Kitchen: This comes with The Sims 4 City Living Expansion Pack. Sims will build their cooking skills faster and get the Inspired Chef Moodlet after cooking.
- Homey: Sims will build their cooking skills faster, and they’ll get a Happy Moodlet.
How to build the Gourmet Cooking skill
This skill works a little differently to other skills in The Sims 4. Your Sim needs to reach level 5 of the Cooking skill before the Gourmet Cooking skill unlocks. To build the Gourmet Cooking skill specifically, you’ll cook using the same tools as the cooking skill, but need to focus on gourmet recipes.Reading skill books will work towards building skills but is slower than other methods. Books will only get you as far as level 9 of a skill. To buy skill books:The skill books are:
- 1Select a bookshelf and choose Purchase Books.
- 2In the pop-up select the drop-down at the top-left that reads Show All.
- 3Choose Skill and scroll through to find the book you want to buy. These will be added to your Sim’s bookshelf.
- Gourmet Cooking Vol 1: Make Food Fancy
- Gourmet Cooking Vol 2: Presentation is King
- Gourmet Cooking Vol 3: Can You Eat That?
If you own The Sims 4 Jungle Adventure Game Pack, the Peace and Quiet Lot Trait helps your Sim build skill faster when reading skill books.
If you own The Sims 4 Discover University Expansion Pack, your Sim can attend skill-building classes. These are rabbit-holes, so your Sim will leave the Lot for some time and then come back when the class is over. Note: Skill Classes are only available between 9 a.m.– 9 p.m.
- 1In Live Mode, select your Sim’s phone.
- 2Open the Business app (the briefcase icon).
- 3Choose Sit in on Skill Class (§250).
- 4In the pop-up menu, choose Gourmet Cooking. Your Sim will leave the Lot and gain the Gourmet Cooking skill while at the class.
If you own The Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies Expansion Pack, your Sim can learn or teach the Gourmet Cooking skill using the Sharing is Caring Whiteboard. You’ll find this in Build Mode.
Gourmet Cooking skill rewards
As your Sim builds the Gourmet Cooking skill, they’ll unlock new rewards, abilities, and interactions along the way. The higher the skill level, the more recipes are unlocked.A green progress bar will appear above your Sim’s head and gradually fill up as they’re building a skill. You can also check their progress by:- 1Entering Live Mode.
- 2Selecting the Sim Panel (bottom left).
- 3Selecting the Skills tab.
At this level, your Sim unlocks the recipes for:
- Caprese Salad
- Ceviche and Chips
- Fruit & Yogurt Parfait
- Garlic Noodles
- Lactose Free Fruit & Yogurt Parfait
- Pasta Primavera
- Vegetable Tempura
- White & Black Cake.
At this level, your Sim unlocks the recipes for:
- Butternut Gnocchi
- Chicken Saltimbocca.
At this level, your Sim unlocks the recipes for:They also unlock the Fancy Spices trick move when cooking.
- Herb Crusted Salmon
- Spinach Frittata
- Maki Rolls.
At this level, your Sim unlocks he recipe for Prosciutto-Wrapped Asparagus. When other Sims eat food made by your Sim, they’ll get the Delicious Dish Moodlet.
At this level, your Sim unlocks the recipes for:They’ll also unlock:
- SimCity Cheesecake
- Tiered Cake
- Nigiri Rolls.
- the Air Slice trick move when cooking
- the ability to Mentor other Sims in this skill
- the Cook Wedding Cake interaction if you own The Sims 4 My Wedding Stories Game Pack.
At this level, your Sim unlocks the recipe for Rack of Lamb.
At this level, your Sim unlocks the recipes for:
- Lobster Tortellini
- Lobster Thermidor
At this level, your Sim unlocks:
- the recipe for the Monte Cristo Sandwich
- the Research Advanced Cooking Techniques ability on the computer.
At this level, your Sim unlocks:
- the recipe for Trout Meunière
- the Share Cooking Secrets interaction.
At this level, your Sim unlocks:
- the recipe for Baked Alaska.
- the Garnish ability, which increases food’s quality.
Gourmet Cooking Recipes
Have you unlocked all the Gourmet Cooking Recipes available in The Sims 4? Your Sim will make higher-quality food (and it’ll be cheaper to make!) if they use high-quality ingredients from the garden. Gourmet Cooking skill cheats
When using skill cheats, type in the number of the level you want to reach. For example, putting stats.set_skill_level major_gourmetcooking 7 into the cheat bar will get your Sim’s Gourmet Cooking skill up to level 7.PC and Mac
