Overview
The Guitar skill in The Sims 4 helps your Sim become a musical star, unlock new songs, and progress in the Entertainer career. In this guide, you'll learn every way to build the Guitar skill, what each level unlocks, and how to use cheats to level up fast.
About the Guitar skill
- The Guitar skill comes with The Sims 4 Base Game, and is a 10 level skill.
- Elder, Adult, Young Adult, and Teen Sims can all build this skill.
- The Guitar skill is needed to progress in the Entertainer career, specifically the Music branch.
- The Guitar skill is needed to complete the Musical Genius Aspiration.
- This skill can be combined with other musical skills. At a certain level of the Singing skill, your Sim can sing and play guitar at the same time.
- Looking for a side hustle? At level 9 of this skill, your Sim can license and sell songs they’ve written to earn Simoleons. Also, if your Sim plays on non-residential Lots they can earn tips!
- Playing guitar in public will also boost your Sim’s Fame level if you own The Sims 4 Get Famous Expansion Pack.
- The Great Acoustics Lot Trait increases how fast your Sim builds this skill.
How to build the Guitar skill
There are multiple ways for your Sim to build the Guitar skill. Some interactions are only unlocked when your Sim reaches a certain level.Picking up a guitar to practice is the easiest way for Sims to start building this skill.There are a couple of guitars that come with The Sims 4 Base Game, and more are added with other Packs. Find and buy these from Build Mode:
- Pied Piper Acoustic Guitar (§600) comes with The Sims 4 Base Game
- Freezer Bunny Blues Guitar (§1,315) comes with The Sims 4 Base Game
- Rock Legend Signed Guitar (§2,400) comes with The Sims 4 Base Game and is unlocked at level 10 of the Music branch of the Entertainer career
- Mi Amor’s Acoustic Guitar (§700) comes with The Sims 4 Lovestruck Expansion Pack
- StickiMo Travel Acoustic Guitar (§740) comes with The Sims 4 Outdoor Retreat Game Pack
- Smooth Strummer 3000 (§920) comes with The Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies Expansion Pack
- Rockmeister Syzygy 7000 Guitar (§1,475) comes with The Sims 4 Werewolves Game Pack and is unlocked at rank Alpha of the Wildfangs pack.

Once your Sim reaches level 2, they can build skill by researching the guitar on a computer.Select a computer and choose Web > Research > Research The Guitar.
Reading skill books will work towards building skills, but it’s slower than other methods. Books will only get you as far as level 9 of a skill. To buy skill books:The skill books are:
- 1Select a bookshelf and choose Purchase Books.
- 2In the pop-up, select the drop-down at the top-left that reads Show All.
- 3Choose Skill and scroll through to find the book you want to buy. These will be added to your Sim’s bookshelf.
- Guitar Vol 1: Intro to Rocking
- Guitar Vol 2: The Classical Sauce
- Guitar Vol 3: Furious Finger Techniques.
If you own The Sims 4 Jungle Adventure Game Pack, the Peace and Quiet Lot Trait helps your Sim build skill faster when reading skill books.
If you own The Sims 4 Discover University Expansion Pack, your Sim can attend skill-building classes. These are rabbit-holes, so your Sim will leave the Lot for some time and then come back when the class is over. Note: Skill Classes are only available between 9 a.m.– 9 p.m.
- 1In Live Mode, select your Sim’s phone.
- 2Open the Business app (the briefcase icon).
- 3Choose Sit in on Skill Class (§250).
- 4In the pop-up menu, choose Guitar. Your Sim will leave the Lot and gain Guitar skill while at the class.
If you own The Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies Expansion Pack, your Sim can learn or teach the Guitar skill using the Sharing is Caring Whiteboard. You’ll find this in Build Mode.
Guitar skill levels
As your Sim builds the Guitar skill, they’ll unlock new rewards, abilities, and interactions along the way. A green progress bar will appear above your Sim’s head and gradually fill up as they’re building a skill. You can also check their progress by:- 1Entering Live Mode.
- 2Selecting the Sim Panel (bottom left).
- 3Selecting the Skills tab.
At this level, your Sim can Practice on the guitar.
At this level, your Sim can:
- Strum for Fun when in a Playful mood
- Appreciate the Blues on the Stereo
- Enthuse about Guitar Solos with other Sims
- Research the Guitar on the computer
At this level, your Sim can Play Blues Songs:
- Hogan’s Diner Blues
- Let’s Meet Again

- That Kind of Day
At this level, your Sim can Jam on the Guitar and Play Rock Songs:

Guitar skill cheats
When using skill cheats, type in the number of the level you want to reach. For example, putting stats.set_skill_level major_guitar 7 into the cheat bar will get your Sim’s Guitar skill up to level 7.PC and Mac
