The Input Overlay setting lets you see actions you perform in FIFA 22. Learn how to use it here.

Input Overlay is a setting that shows on-screen controller graphics on your screen, letting you watch the inputs you perform during a match.

These visuals can be used as a tool to help you monitor your in-game actions, send us detailed feedback on Answers HQ, and even to see how your inputs are processed by FIFA Game Data Centers and your network during online play.

Option one:

  1. Start FIFA 22.
  2. Go to the Customise tile on the main menu.
  3. Choose Settings.
  4. Click Game Settings, then go to the Visual tab.
  5. Scroll through the list until you get to Input Overlay.
  6. Choose your preferred Input Overlay option.

Option two:

  1. Start a FIFA 22 match.
  2. Pause the match.
  3. Got to Settings
  4. Click Game Settings, then go to the Visual tab.
  5. Scroll through the list until you get to Input Overlay
  6. Choose your preferred Input Overlay option.

Why isn’t the Input Overlay available for FIFA 22 on Stadia?

This is due to the streaming nature of the platform. When you are playing FIFA 22 on Stadia, there is no physical hardware where you are playing the game that processes your inputs, and the knock-on effect of that is that a Stadia Input Overlay would not accurately display your inputs in its current implementation.

The Input Overlay can be configured in three ways.

Off

No input related controller graphics are displayed on screen.

Input Only

One controller graphic is displayed in the top right corner of your screen during matches, and it functions differently depending on what kind of match you’re playing.

  • Offline match: The controller graphic mirrors the actions you perform, like button presses on your physical controller.
  • Online match: When playing an online match on a FIFA Game Data Center, the controller graphic automatically changes into the Online Response one, like we detail in the next section of this article.
  • Peer to Peer Online: These online matches don’t use FIFA Game Data Centers, meaning that the controller graphic displays the actions performed on your physical controller as they are processed by the game.

Local Input + Online Response

Two controller graphics are displayed on the top right corner of your screen during online matches played on FIFA Game Data Centers.

  • The first controller graphic is Local Input and mirrors the actions you perform on your physical controller.
  • The second controller graphic is Online Response, which shows the same inputs but after they've been processed by a FIFA Game Data Center and your network. This Input Overlay option is only available for matches played on FIFA Game Data Centers.

When this option is chosen but an offline match is played, the “Input Only” option is automatically used.

Why it takes longer for the Online Response graphic to show actions compared to Local Input

The Online Response controller graphic can be affected by Connection Quality factors like ping, packet loss, and jitter. To learn more about them, check out our article on Connection Quality and how it can impact your FIFA 22 experience.
