Learn about Hockey Ultimate Team (HUT) Division Rivals in NHL®.

HUT Rivals is a competitive HUT mode based on a skill-driven rank system. Play games to rank up in your Division and gain HUT Champions Points.

Plus, if you get enough HUT Champions Points you also have one more way to gain access to HUT Champions.

What’s a Division in HUT Rivals?

A Division is a group of HUT players competing online in HUT Rivals based on Skill Rating—the point ranking system in Rivals.

There are 10 Divisions total, with 10 being the lowest, and 1 the highest. As you play in weekly matches, you can gain Rival Points, Rankings, and Reward Tiers to track your progress. The higher your Division, the more HUT Champions Points you’ll earn.

While playing HUT Champions, these games will not count towards your Skill Rating or Division and will not add additional HUT Champions Points per game played.

How many HUT Champions Points do I need to qualify for Weekend Season?

You need a total of 2,000 HUT Champions Points to spend on a HUT Collectible. This collectible will then get you access to Weekend Season.

What is Skill Rating?

Skill Rating is a way to rate your skills in HUT Rivals. It determines what Division you’ll compete in each week and what skill levels you’ll play against in matchmaking. Depending on how you do in each match, it will increase or decrease.

How do you determine my Skill Rating and Division?

When you first start HUT Rivals you’ll complete five Placement Matches to get your Skill Rating. Your Skill Rating will then determine which Division you will qualify for from Division 10 to Division 1.

How does matchmaking work?

Much like Squad Battles, you’ll be matched on a leaderboard within your Division based on your Skill Points. The leaderboard will have five Ranked Reward Tiers and include everyone within that Division. Matchmaking pairs you with a player that’s close to your skill rating.

How can I move between Divisions?

You can move up and down in your Division depending on your Skill Rating at the end of the week. If your Skill Rating increases or decreases enough to bump you into a new Division, you’ll be moved to it for the next Rivals Season.

How do I earn rewards?

You’ll earn rewards at the end of each Season depending on your Rank within your Division. After weekly competitions, you’ll have an option to choose one of several rewards based on your performance in the current Season.

When do I get my rewards?

Once the weekly competition ends, you will be able to claim your rewards 24 hours after the event ends. The weekly competition will start and finish on Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m. PST (9:00 p.m. UTC). You’ll be able to claim your rewards Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. PST (9:00 p.m. UTC).

You’ll also be able to start the next weekly competition while you wait for your rewards to be granted.

How do I claim my rewards?

In Rivals mode you’ll get a prompt saying rewards are available if you’re eligible. You’ll then get to choose one reward option from a list. The rewards and number of options will vary depending on your rank.
