Sims 4 Legacy Edition is a free edition of The Sims 4 and The Sims 4 Deluxe Version for players on unsupported systems. It won’t be available for new Simmers, only people who already own the game.

Why is this happening?

As of late 2019, we no longer support The Sims 4 on Non-Metal mac OS machines or PC 32-bit Operating Systems. If you aren’t sure your Mac supports Metal, check here .

If you need to switch to The Sims 4 Legacy Edition, you may get an error message that says “Unable to start due to missing game data.”

Switching is easier than ever. All you need to do is download The Sims 4 Legacy Edition, then launch the game.

If you are using a Mac, note that you will only be able to launch the game from the Origin Client. You won’t be able to launch the game from the desktop icon.

To launch the game:

1. Click on the Origin icon on your desktop or dock.
2. Go to My Game Library.
3. Right-click on The Sims 4 and click Play.
   

Your save files will automatically transfer over. You can find them using these steps.

1. Go to your Documents.
2. Open Electronic Arts.
3. You’ll see two folders: The Sims 4 and The Sims 4 Legacy Edition.
   • Note: Since your saves will automatically carry over, both folders will have the same information when you first download Legacy Edition.

Legacy Edition saves will always be transferable into standard The Sims 4 games.

Standard The Sims 4 games will only be transferable into Legacy Edition games if the save was generated before the Legacy Edition update to the base game.

You can download and use all previous expansions, stuff packs, and packs before October 2019. Discover University and all releases afterwards will not be supported on Legacy Edition.

The Gallery, game banners, and social features will no longer work with the Legacy Edition. You won’t receive any content or bug fixes, and if you want to buy any other Expansions, Stuff Packs, and Game Packs released before Discover University, you’ll need to do that in the Origin store.

You can still access My Library. To make sure you save all your favorite creations, follow our steps on how to save content from the Gallery to your library.

If you update your computer to meet our latest system requirements, you can launch The Sims 4 as normal.

Follow the steps below to switch to the 64 Bit edition of The Sims:

1. Find The Sims 4 in My Game Library within Origin.
2. Right-click The Sims 4 tile and choose Game Properties.
3. Switch to Advanced Launch Options.
4. Click the dropdown under When launching this game... and select The Sims 4™ 64 Bit.

If you are switching to a new computer, you can use the steps below to transfer any save files to the standard game.

1. Go to your Documents.
2. Open Electronic Arts.
3. Copy the folder titled The Sims 4 Legacy Edition.
4. Transfer the file to the same folder (Documents/Electronic Arts) on your new computer, and change the title to The Sims 4.
5. Launch the game.
