Before you start

Make sure your PC is ready to play The Sims 2: Legacy Collection:
  • update graphics and audio drivers to the latest versions
  • remove old The Sims files
  • check you have enough hard drive space available. 

Having issues installing The Sims 2: Legacy Collection? 

If you’re getting the Some files were corrupted or missing error, it could be an issue with where your Packs are installed. When installing The Sims 2: Legacy Collection, the game automatically creates a folder for your game saves. If anything breaks in this process it can cause issues. To fix this:

    On your PC open Documents > EA Games to find The Sims 2 Legacy folder.
  2. 2
    Move this folder to your Desktop, or delete it.
  3. 3
    Reinstall The Sims 2: Legacy Collection.

Troubleshooting errors in The Sims 2: Legacy Collection

This error usually happens when there’s a conflict between existing save files from a past installation. To fix this you’ll need to remove these old files and do a fresh install.

    Open the Electronic Arts folder.
  2. 2
    Select The Sims 2 Legacy folder.
  3. 3
    Remove this folder from the Electronic Arts folder. 
  4. 4
    Reinstall the game.

Using Windows shortcut keys to move the game to another monitor when in full-screen can cause issues. To move the game to a second monitor while it’s running press Alt + Enter to switch to windowed mode first.

This error can appear if there’s an issue with your Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). Try these troubleshooting tips:
  • Make sure your your drivers are updated to the latest version from your hardware provider.
  • Check your Graphics Rules file:
    • Open the files on your computer and go to the \EA Games\The Sims 2 Legacy\EP9\TSData\Res\Config\Graphics Rules.sgr.
    • Using TextEdit check the file has this line: boolProp activeDeviceUseSoftwareRasterizer $useSoftwareRasterizer
    • If it doesn’t, add it.
  • Save the change, and re-launch the game.Sometimes using the -w command line prompt and forcing the game to launch in windowed mode can resolve the issue.

Command line prompt options

If you want the game to launch at a specific resolution that’s different from your monitor, or don’t want to launch in full-screen mode, you can use command line prompts to change how the game launches.Available options are:
  • -r[width]x[height] 
    • set screen resolution (eg; -r1400x900)
  • -w
    • windowed mode
  • -nosound
    • disable sound
  • -l:<language>
    • change language (example; -l:French )
How to use command line options:

    Open the Installed Games menu and find The Sims: Legacy Edition.
  2. 2
    Select Manage.
  3. 3
    Select View Properties.
  4. 4
    Type the command in the Advance Launch Options box.
