About the Writer career in The Sims 4

The Writer career comes with The Sims 4 Base Game and has two career branches:
  • Author 
  • Journalist. 
To join this career, select Find a Job from the phone or computer and choose Writer.A Sim sits at a desk typing on the computer with a green lamp in the corner. On the desk sits a quill in an ink pot.

Writer career tasks

To get a promotion in the Writer career, your Sim needs to complete career tasks. These tasks change depending on your Sim’s rank in the career. To check what tasks your Sim needs to complete, open the Career Panel (the briefcase icon in the bottom right of the screen) in Live Mode. 

How to Write Articles

    Select a Sim and go to More Choices > Friendly > Interests > More Choices > Interview about Life. 
  2. 2
    Using the computer, select Write > Write Positive Article or Write > Write Negative Article. 
  3. 3
    In the pop-up, choose the Sim you want to write the article about.

    • Pay Per Day: §200
    • Promotion Requirements: Read Books

    Blogger
    • Pay Per Day: §256
    • Promotion Requirements: Read Books, reach Writing Skill Level 2
    • Career Rewards and New Interactions: §407, Milton Word Processor
  3. 3
    Freelance Article Writer
    • Pay Per Day: §304
    • Promotion Requirements: Write Books, reach Writing Skill Level 3
    • Career Rewards and New Interactions: §509, Still Life with Apple and Pitcher and Books and Bottles and Flowers!, Pitch Story Idea interaction
  4. 4
    Advice Columnist
    • Pay Per Day: §353
    • Promotion Requirements: Write Books, reach Writing Skill Level 4
    • Career Rewards and New Interactions: §611, The Thinker
  5. 5
    Regular Contributor

When your Sim is promoted to rank 5, you’ll choose between the Author or Journalist career path

Writer career promotion cheats

Using this cheat promotes your Sim by one rank in the Writer career. You can use it multiple times to reach the top of the career path.

    Select Control + Shift + C to open the cheat dialogue box. 
  2. 2
    Type testingcheats true and select Enter to turn on cheats. 
  3. 3
    Type careers.promote adult_writer into the cheat dialogue box and select Enter.
