PC PlayStation Xbox My game is still crashing

If you’re playing Apex Legends and your game keeps crashing or freezing, make sure you have these basic steps done before you try our troubleshooting steps below. Covering the bases will save you time down the line if your game issues can be fixed with a simple health check:

  1. Update or downgrade your graphics driver. This is the most common issue that will cause your game to crash. Check your driver for updates, or if you recently updated it and the game begins to crash, try downgrading it.
  2. Close programs running in the background.
  3. Add Windows Defender Firewall exceptions.
    • Go to: (Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Defender Firewall\Allowed Apps)
    • Make sure to add and check both boxes for the EA app’s Launcher program.

Try these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Perform a clean boot of your PC to disable background tasks that may be interfering with your game.
  2. Reinstall Apex Legends and the EA app.
  3. Repair the game files in the EA app by going to Library, then finding Apex Legends. Click the Manage icon then click Repair.
  4. Cap your frame rate. Here’s how to cap your frame rate on Steam or the EA app:
    • For Steam, go to Library and right-click on Apex Legends. Click on Properties from the drop-down list, find Launch Options and type in the following: +fps_max 60
    • For the EA app, go to Library and select Apex Legends. Click on Manage > Properties, then find Advanced Launch Options and type in type in the following: +fps_max 60

You can set it lower or higher than “60” as needed.

  1. Make sure you have the latest software update.
  2. Perform a power cycle.
    • Touch the power button on the front of the PS4 for at least seven seconds (until the system beeps twice).
    • Turn it back on after one minute.
    • Launch the game.
  3. Unplug any devices attached to the USB slot.
  4. Try restarting your console.
  5. Try reinstalling the game. If you're using an external hard drive, consider installing it on the internal to see if you have any improved results.
  6. Turn off Convert Incoming Voice to Chat Text by going to the Audio tab in the game’s Settings.
  7. Restore the license for the game.
    • Go to Settings on your PlayStation.
    • Click Account Management then Restore Licenses.
  1. Make sure you have the latest software update.
  2. Perform a power cycle.
  3. Unplug any devices attached to the USB slot.
  4. Try restarting your console.
  5. Try reinstalling the game. If you're using an external hard drive, consider installing it on the internal to see if you have any improved results.
  6. Clear the MAC Address.
    • From the Xbox dashboard click Settings, then go to All Settings.
    • Go to Network, then Network Settings.
    • Click Advanced Settings, then Alternate MAC address.
    • Select Clear, then restart your Xbox.
  7. Deleted the local saved data.
    • From My Games & Apps select Apex Legends.
    • Press Start, then click Manage Game.
    • Click Deleted Saved Data.
