Advanced Look Controls (ALC) are settings that give you greater control over aiming and movement. You can change your default ALC settings from the main menu.
Aim assist helps you aim your weapon in the game. Players who use a PC can have a reaction time advantage over console players who don’t use aim assist, so aim assist helps to better balance the game.

ADS is a method that helps you aim with more control. It refers to aiming in first-person perspective to get a better view of enemies.
The Battle Pass gives players the chance to earn rewards, like unique cosmetics and Apex Packs*, from the current Season. There are two Battle Passes every Season: one for the first split of the Season and one for the second.
Every player can unlock some of these items each Season through normal play. Players who choose to buy the Battle Pass can earn everything available that Season.

Bot Royale is a mode that lets you play against bots. You can play alone, join a squad of bots, or play in a premade squad with friends.
Challenges are in-game tasks that you can complete to earn rewards. Challenges can be daily, weekly, or linked to an event.
Events bring exciting new gameplay changes, purchasable cosmetics, and free progression content to Apex Legends.
Frames-per-second (FPS) helps determine how smooth your gameplay is. Most players aim for around 60 FPS as a standard in Apex Legends. Learn more about how to increase your FPS.
Follow these steps to see your FPS in Apex Legends.
Legends are the characters that you can play as in Apex Legends. They all have their own skills and abilities, so make sure to try different Legends to see what they can do.
Looking for group or LFG is a term players use when they want to find others to play with.
An event mode that’s only available for a short period of time and contains unique game modes.
The maps you play on in Apex Legends rotate. Every Season, three maps will be in rotation and are only available for a limited time.
Some Challenges have NBR, meaning Non Battle Royale, marked next to them. If you see NBR, it means you can complete this Challenge in other modes.
Patch notes are updates to the game. They include information on things like new Legends, map changes, game updates, and more.

Ping, or latency, is the measurement of how long it takes for game data to be sent from your platform to the data centers and back.
Packet loss is the measurement of the number, or percentage, of packets that fail to successfully make the round trip to the data centers and back.

Your Apex Legends Public ID is your EA Account name. Find out more about your Public ID.
Each Season comes with new content. This can include new Legends, fresh loot, and special events that change the Games. Plus, every Season comes with two Battle Passes, which lets you unlock tons of unique content as you level up.
Tags are a visual flare you can add to your username. Learn how to set your Tag.
When you first start playing Apex Legends, you get access to the Welcome Pass, where you complete Welcome Challenges to earn rewards. You can complete Welcome Challenges in the standard game mode or play against bots in Bot Royale.

Quips are unique phrases that Legends say.
When you or your squad hold a specific spot. You might leave one player in one place to defend an area.
The average amount of damage you cause other players per round.
When a player is away from their keyboard.
Gibraltar’s tactical ability, Dome of Protection, creates a bubble that protects him.
Cracked is a term for broken armor.
When a player moves in and out of Gibraltar’s bubble to shoot at other players while staying protected in the bubble.
When you damage a player and they’re in your line of sight, you’ll see a health bar above their head for three seconds. The health bar will disappear when you lose your line of sight.
If you have a line of sight on an enemy and they’re within 50m of you, your enemy will be highlighted. Their highlight color will change based on their distance from you.
Finishers are final moves that Legends can perform to eliminate a downed enemy. Every Legend has different finishers, and a special cutscene will play when you perform one.
Focusing your attacks on one enemy player.
Gatekeeping refers to when a player or squad tries to block off a specific area so that other players can’t get past them. For example, you might gatekeep an area so an enemy squad can’t enter the Ring without fighting you.
GG stands for good game, which is usually said at the end of a match.
The best position in the Ring. For example, an area with lots of cover.
A hot drop is an area of a map that attracts a lot of players.
One person in a squad is chosen to be Jumpmaster. They pick where your squad lands on the map.
When your Legend is downed and needs a Knockdown Shield to be revived.
Players who leave a match early.
Upgrade your Legend’s armor and abilities throughout a match with the Legend Upgrade System. Learn more about how the Legend Upgrade System works.
Meta stands for the most effective tactic available.
You might see players talking about Legend meta or weapon meta when they discuss which Legends, weapons, or strategies they prefer to use.
Following another team’s path through an area, usually to pinch them.
Oob or oobing refers to when a player is out of bounds in a non-playable area of the map.
Moving your squad in front of or behind an enemy squad so they get third partied.
Staying near the edge of the zone to try and find and kill other squads, particularly squads who are moving into the zone.
Moving inside the next zone early to get a good position.
Points of Interest are named landmarks on the map. They usually contain large amounts of loot and Supply Bins, so try to land at them when you start a match.
When you keep attacking an enemy from afar to damage their health and armor over time.
The Ring is an area on your map that shrinks throughout the match. If you’re outside the Ring, you’ll take damage.
The amount of time it’ll take to kill an enemy.
A situation where two squads are fighting and another team joins in, becoming the third party. This can also be known as getting thirded.
Killing a player that’s been knocked down so you can take their items.
Teleporting.

The way you’re paired with other players to form squads and matches.
Ranked Points are the points you earn for taking part in Ranked matches. You also spend RP to take part in Ranked matches.
The skill level that you’re playing at, ranging from Bronze to Master.
Show off your skills and customize your profile with badges. Badges are unlockable cosmetics that you can put on your banner. They show that you’ve completed specific Challenges or have certain skills.
Banner Poses are cosmetics that change how your Legend poses on your banner.
A batt is a shield battery item that restores your armor. A player might say they’re batting when they use one to heal.
An Evac Tower launches a rocket which explodes into a balloon. You can use Evac Towers to move around the map by climbing up them and diving back down.
Pieces of gear are in-game items that’ll help you in the game. Gear includes items like helmets, weapon attachments, and backpage upgrades.
Gifting in Apex Legends lets you send and receive items like skins, banners, and more to and from your friends.

Heat shields are deployable items that protect you from damage from the Ring.
Helmets reduce the damage you take from headshots.
Hop-ups are weapon attachments that can improve your weapon’s performance.
Knockdown shields protect you and block damage for a temporary amount of time. You can only use them when you’re knocked down.
Legends carry Legend Banners and drop them when they die. Only their teammates can pick them up, and taking one to a Respawn Beacon will bring that Legend back to life.
Items you find in the game are called loot. You can find loot in Supply Bins and around the map.
Med kits restore your health.
You can use Mobile Respawn Beacons to create a Respawn Beacon at your location.
Ordnance refers to throwable weapons.
A phoenix kit fully restores your health and shields.
Respawn Beacons bring downed teammates back to life. To revive a player, you ’ll need to take their Legend Banner to a Respawn Beacon.
You can use skins to customize how your Legends and weapons look. You can get skins in Apex Packs*, the Battle Pass, and Twitch or Prime rewards. You can also create some skins with Crafting Metals.
In Battle Royale, every Legend drops with a starter kit. This kit includes a level 1 helmet, a level 1 evo shield, a level 1 knockdown shield, plus two syringes and two shield cells.
Shield kits restore your armor.
In Apex Legends, your armor is fueled by a Shield Core. Learn more about Shield Cores.
Supply Bins are where you can find loot like weapons, ammo, helmets, and more in-game.
Survey beacons show the locations of enemies on your map. Only Recon Legends can use them.
Survival items are items that help protect Legends. They include heat shields, Evac Towers, and Mobile Respawn Beacons.
Syringes restore your health.
Ultimate Accelerants restore your ultimate energy. This charges your Legend’s ultimate ability.
Vault Keys give you access to vaults full of loot.
You can use Zip Up Balloons, also known as Zip or Zips, to move quickly across the map. Use them to catch up to your squad or get back in the Ring.
