New to EA SPORTS NHL® 25? Here are our top five tips to help you become a pro.

1. Watch your stamina

As you play, your stamina bar will deplete. By conserving your stamina, you’ll have the energy to slap the puck past the goalie after setting up a great play.

With the new Goalie Fatigue System, you’ll need to keep an eye on your own goalie’s stamina and look for opportunities to tire out the opposing goalie.

2. Perform One-touch dekes

A deke (a term used in hockey) is when you trick another player by pretending to do one thing and then doing something else. It can help you break through defenses and confuse opponents. In-game tutorials will help you to learn and leverage them as a rookie. The basic deke you should know is the One-Handed Tuck.

To perform this deke:

  • On PlayStation®:
    • Press and hold X, then release.
  • On Xbox:
    • Press A, then release.

Learn other dekes and combine them to skate effortlessly around your opponents and take your shots.

3. Practice

To elevate your game from beginner to pro, you’ll need to get in some practice. You can access Free Skate, the EA SPORTS NHL® 25 practice mode, from the main menu. Here, you can play 1v1 against the goalie to get familiar with your console controls, practice dekes, and work on your moves.

4. Take aim with Shot Aim Targeting

When it comes to aiming, beginners may notice how sensitive the left analog stick (for both PlayStation® and Xbox) can be. The gameplay mimics real-world hockey experiences, so you’ll need to practice scoring on the virtual ice.

To help your aim, make sure you have Shot Aim Targeting switched on in the Settings menu.

  • A red target means you’re aiming at the goalie.
  • A blue target is a better-positioned aim.
  • A green target means you’re aiming at an open part of the net.

Shot Aim Targeting is on by default. Here’s how to check to make sure it’s on:

  1. Go to the Settings menu.
  2. Select On-Ice Trainer.
  3. Make sure Shot Aim Targeting is toggled On.

5. Compete in Hockey Ultimate Team (HUT)

Once you get comfortable practicing and playing in the game, the best way to level up your skills is to compete. You can play with, or against, friends through cross-play.
