Apex Legends™ crafting and currency guide

There are five currencies in Apex Legends: Apex Coins, Crafting Metals, Legend Tokens, Heirloom Shards, and Exotic Shards. Here’s how to get them and what you can use them for.

How to get Apex Coins

You need to buy Apex Coins with real-world money. To buy Apex Coins in-game:

    Select the Store tab.

    Select Apex Coins at the top-right.

    Choose the amount you want to buy.

    Check that the payment method is correct and then choose Pay Now.
You can also buy Apex Coins at the Official Store or through other trusted retailers.

Can you get free Apex Coins?

You can earn some Apex Coins as rewards from a Season’s Battle Pass. There are no other ways to get free Apex Coins.

Can you gift Apex Coins?

You can’t gift Apex Coins to other players.

How to get Crafting Metals

You can use Crafting Metals to craft items like skins and weapons. You can craft most things in the game except: 
  • new Legends 
  • Apex Packs*
  • Apex Coins
  • Legend Tokens.
You can only get Crafting Metals from Apex Packs*. You can’t buy or gift them.There are four levels of Crafting Metals, each worth a different amount. 
  • Common: 15.
  • Rare: 30.
  • Epic: 200.
  • Legendary: 600.

    Go to the Legends or Armory tab. 
    • You can find Legend skins, banners, quips, and finishers in the Legends tab, or select the Armory tab to craft weapons.

    Select the item you want to craft.

    Select Unlock.

    Select Craft with. The button shows you how many Crafting Metals you need. 
The amount it costs to craft items depends on how rare they are. Here’s how many Crafting Metals you’ll need for each tier. 
  • Common: 30 Crafting Metals.
  • Rare: 60 Crafting Metals.
  • Epic: 400 Crafting Metals.
  • Legendary: 1200 Crafting Metals.
Once you’ve crafted your item, the item will no longer be gray, and your total of Crafting Metals will adjust. You can’t break down your item for Crafting Metals after it’s been made, and Crafting Metals can’t be refunded. You can’t craft Mythic or Iconic tier items. Learn more about different item tiers. 

How to get Legend Tokens

Legend Tokens are earned by completing matches and leveling up. You can use them to get Legends, unlock recolors for Legendary skins, and reroll Daily Challenges.The only way to get Legend Tokens is to earn them. You can’t buy them in the Store, get them through Apex Packs, or gift them to other players. 

Leveling up is the quickest way to get Legend Tokens. Starting from Level 4, you’ll get 600 Legend Tokens per level, and you’ll continue to earn Tokens at higher levels even after hitting max level. If you want to earn Legend Tokens through matches, try to be strategic about kills and avoid engaging in fights that could send you back to the main menu too soon. You can also earn Legend Tokens faster by playing with friends to boost your Time Survived XP allotment. Playing in trios gets you more XP at the end of matches and can help you level up faster. To maximize your XP gains, grab the Battle Pass and tackle Daily Challenges.

How to get Heirloom Shards

Heirloom Shards are used to craft Heirloom items from the Heirloom Store. You can only get Heirloom Shards through Apex Packs*. When you open an Apex Pack, there’s a less-than-one percent probability you’ll get Heirloom Shards. You’re guaranteed to get Heirloom Shards at least once if you open 500 Apex Packs. These 500 Packs don’t include Collection Events Packs. For more details, visit our FAQ on Apex Packs, which cover probability rates and item availability.

Once you’ve got Heirloom Shards, you can use them in the Mythic Store.

How to get Exotic Shards

    Choose the amount you want to buy.

    Check that the payment method is correct and then select Pay Now. You need to buy Exotic Shards with real-world money. 

What can you buy with Exotic Shards?

You can use Exotic Shards to buy Artifact customizations and other in-game items. 

Once you have Exotic Shards, you can use them in the Store.

    Select the upgrade you want to buy.

    • You have to buy upgrades in order.

Can you gift Exotic Shards?

No, you can’t gift Exotic Shards.

Missing Exotic Shards

If you bought Exotic Shards and they don’t show up after 24 hours, follow the steps for missing Exotic Shards. 

What are Apex Packs*?

Apex Packs are randomized in-game containers filled with three cosmetic items or crafting currencies. You can learn more about Pack drop rates on ea.com.

How to get Apex Packs 

There are three ways to get Apex Packs: leveling up your account, buying Apex Packs, and earning Packs through the Battle Pass. 
As you level up your account, you can earn one Apex Pack. The frequency of Apex Pack drops changes with your level.
  • Level 2–20: one Pack every level.
  • Level 22–300: one Pack every two levels.
  • Level 305–500: one Pack every five levels.
You’ll also continue to earn 600 Legend Tokens per level.

Checking how many Apex Packs you’ve opened  

You can’t check how many Apex Packs you’ve opened in-game.

Duplicate items in a Pack

The game automatically recognizes what items you have, so you'll never get duplicates. Instead, it’ll grant you Crafting Metals based on the rarity of the item.

How does the Wishlist work?

You can create a personalized Wishlist in Apex Legends that helps you get items for the Legends and weapons you want. In Season 27, the Wishlist is only available for the Amped Seasonal Pack. What you need to know about Wishlists:
  • You can choose five Legends and two weapons for your Wishlist. Once you’ve chosen your Wishlist, it’ll influence your drops in Wishlist-enabled packs.
  • When you open a Wishlist-enabled pack with an active Wishlist, you’ll receive one item at a specified rarity tier relevant to your Wishlist selections.
  • Only active Wishlists will affect the drops in a Wishlist-enabled pack; all your Wishlist selections must be valid for the Wishlist to be active. For example, a Wishlist selection is invalid if a Player owns 100% of the items for that Legend or Weapon Class from the Apex Pack Pool. 
  • If your Wishlist is inactive at the time of opening a pack, the items will instead draw from the generic Apex Pack pool.
You can change your Wishlist selection five times a Season for free. After that, you’ll need to use Legend Tokens to change your Wishlist. Check out ea.com for more details on Wishlists.

What’s a Legend Pass

Legend Passes unlock a set of challenges you can complete to earn rewards for a specific Legend. You can get Legend Passes using Apex Coins.When you complete a Legend Pass, you earn a Legendary skin for your chosen Legend. You won’t earn a skin you already have. 
  • You can get multiple Legend Passes per Season. 
  • You can only get one Legend Pass per Legend. This resets when a new Season starts. 
  • You don’t need to complete a Legend Pass within the Season you get it. 
  • Legend Passes are giftable. 

Apex Legends item tiers

When you get an item in Apex Legends, you can tell how rare it is by its color. There are six different item colors.
  • White items are Common.
  • Blue items are Rare.
  • Purple items are Epic.
  • Gold items are Legendary. 
  • Red items are Mythic.
  • Turquoise items are Iconic.

What are Artifacts? 

Artifacts are a type of Mythic item.You need to buy the base Artifact with Heirloom Shards or unlock it through an event. After that, you can customize your Artifact with Exotic Shards. You need to buy each customization in this order:

    The theme or Artifact color.  
  2. 2
    The power source, which gives your Artifact a special effect.
  3. 3
    The activation emote.
  4. 4
    The death box.
