Want your Sims to become romance experts? Learn how to build the Romance skill in The Sims 4 and unlock new romantic interactions, and build romantic relationships faster. This guide also covers skill books, cheats, and what each level unlocks.
About the Romance skill
- The Romance skill comes with The Sims 4 Lovestruck Expansion Pack, and is a 10 level skill.
- As your Sim levels up they’ll be better at wooing potential love interests.
- Elder, Adult, Young Adult, and Teen Sims can all build this skill.
- If your Sim is in a Flirty mood, they’ll have more success with romantic interactions and find it easier to build the Romance skill.
- The Romance skill is needed to progress in the Romance Consultant career.
- This skill is needed to complete the Romantic Explorer Aspiration. It’s also useful for completing any of the other Romantic Aspirations, like Serial Romantic, Paragon Partner, and Soulmate.
How to build the Romance skill
There are multiple ways for your Sim to build the Romance skill. Some interactions are only unlocked when your Sim reaches a certain level of skill.- Once your Sim reaches level 1 of the skill, they can research it on the computer. Select a computer and choose More Choices > Web > Research > Research Romance Tips.
- Using a mirror, select Freshen Up.
The quickest way to build the Romance skill is to engage in romantic interactions. Select another Sim and choose More Choices > Romance. Choose between different types of romantic interactions: Affection, Flirtation, and Physical Intimacy. The higher your romance level is with another Sim, the more romantic interactions unlock.
Want to fast-forward your romance level with another Sim? Follow the steps in this article for how to cheat a higher romance level. This won’t raise your skill level, but a higher relationship will make it easier to perform romantic interactions.
Reading skill books will work towards building skills, but it’s slower than other methods. Books will only get you as far as level 9 of a skill. To buy skill books:The skill books are:
- 1Select a bookshelf and choose Purchase Books.
- 2In the pop-up, select the drop-down at the top-left that reads Show All.
- 3Choose Skill and scroll through to find the book you want to buy. These will be added to your Sim’s bookshelf.

If you own The Sims 4 Discover University Expansion Pack, your Sim can attend skill-building classes. These are rabbit-holes, so your Sim will leave the Lot for some time and then come back when the class is over. Note: Skill Classes are only available between 9 a.m.–9 p.m.
- 1In Live Mode, select your Sim’s phone.
- 2Open the Business app (the briefcase icon).
- 3Choose Sit in on Skill Class (§250).
- 4In the pop-up menu, choose Romance. Your Sim will leave the Lot and gain Romance skill while at the class.
If you own The Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies Expansion Pack, your Sim can learn or teach the Romance skill using the Sharing is Caring Whiteboard. You’ll find this in Build Mode.
Romance skill levels
As your Sim builds the Romance skill, they’ll unlock new rewards, abilities, and interactions along the way. A green progress bar will appear above your Sim’s head and gradually fill up as they’re building a skill. You can also check their progress by:- 1Entering Live Mode.
- 2Selecting the Sim Panel (bottom left).
- 3Selecting the Skills tab.
At this level, your Sim can:
- Flirt more frequently with other Sims
- Romance Sims faster
- Perform a Romantic Introduction.
At this level, your Sim can share a Sweetheart’s Box with another Sim. To buy one:
- Open the Shopping app on your Sim’s phone and choose Purchase Romantic Items.
- On the computer, go to Order > Purchase Sweetheart’s Box.
- Sims can also buy these from the stall next to Sudor gym. Find this in the Nuevo Corazón neighborhood of Ciudad Enamorada.
This level unlocks the Whisper about Desires romantic interaction.
This level unlocks the:
- Perform Seductive Dance interaction
- Tender Neck Kiss interaction
At this level, your Sim can:
- Suggest Back-to-Back WooHoo
- Recap WooHoo with other Sims
At this level, your Sim can Scan the Room for possible romance.
At this level, your Sim can:
- Perform Steamy Make Out with other Sims
- Build-Up Partner
At this level, your Sim can Emotionally Connect with other Sims.
At this level, your Sim can Lovingly Dip Kiss other Sims.
At this level, your Sim can perform the Aura of Flirtiness on themselves.
Romance skill cheats
When using skill cheats, type in the number of the level you want to reach. For example, putting stats.set_skill_level major_romance 7 into the cheat bar will get your Sim’s Romance skill up to level 7.PC and Mac
