The Sims 4 Charisma Skill: How to level up and cheats

Overview

The Charisma skill in The Sims 4 helps your Sims build friendships, climb the career ladder, and unlock unique social interactions. In this guide, you’ll learn the best ways to level up Charisma and how to use Charisma cheats on PC, Mac, and consoles so you can skip straight to the fun.

About the Charisma skill

The Charisma skill comes with The Sims 4 Base Game, and is a 10 level skill.
Elder, Adult, Young Adult, Teen, and Child Sims can all build this skill.
When Child Sims are building the Charisma skill, they’ll also build the Creativity skill. To learn more about how Child skills work, check out our guide.
The Charisma skill is useful for promotions across multiple careers.
The Convival Lot Trait increases how fast your Sim builds this skill.

How to build the Charisma skill

There are multiple ways for your Sim to build the Charisma skill. Some interactions are only unlocked when your Sim reaches a certain level. A green progress bar will appear above your Sim’s head and gradually fill up as they’re building a skill. You can also check their progress by selecting the Skills tab in the Sim Panel at the bottom left of Live Mode. Here, you can check how many skills your Sim has and what level they are in each.

Using the Practice Speech and Practice Storytelling interactions at a mirror is the simplest way to build the Charisma skill.

If you own The Sims 4 City Living Expansion Pack, select Converse > Friendly Chit-Chat with one of the talking toilets to build Charisma skill. Find the Talking John and Potty Mouth 2.0 in Build Mode.

Another way to build Charisma skill is by interacting with other Sims. The more sociable your Sim is, the more Charisma skill they’ll build. Having a high charisma skill level also means your Sims' social interactions and making friends will have a higher rate of success.

Reading skill books will work towards building skills, but it is slower than other methods. Books will only get you as far as level 9 of a skill. To buy skill books:

Select a bookshelf and choose Purchase Books.

In the pop-up, select the Show All drop-down from the top-left.

Choose Skill and scroll through to find the book you want to buy. These will be added to your Sim’s bookshelf.

The skill books are:

Charisma Vol 1: Diplomacy for Dummies
Charisma Vol 2: The Science of Diplomacy
Charisma Vol 3: The Art of Diplomacy

If you own The Sims 4 Jungle Adventure Game Pack, the Peace and Quiet Lot Trait helps your Sim build skill faster when reading skill books.

If you own The Sims 4 Discover University Expansion Pack, your Sim can attend skill-building classes. These are rabbit-holes, so your Sim will leave the Lot for some time and then come back when the class is over.

In Live Mode, select your Sim’s phone.

Open the Business app (the briefcase icon).

Choose Sit in on Skill Class (§250).

In the pop-up menu, choose Charisma. Your Sim will leave the Lot and gain the Charisma skill while at the class.

Note: Skill Classes are only available between 9 a.m.– 9 p.m.

If you own The Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies Expansion Pack, your Sim can learn or teach the Charisma skill using the Sharing is Caring Whiteboard. You’ll find this in Build Mode.
