This guide covers how to build the Swordsmanship skill, what each skill level unlocks, cheats, and tips to help your Sim become a true master of the blade.

About the Swordsmanship skill

Two Sims duel each other with metal swords at a Swordsmanship Tournament while other Sims watch.
  • The Swordsmanship skill comes with The Sims 4 Royalty and Legacy Expansion Pack, and is a level 10 skill.
  • Elder, Adult, Young Adult, and Teen Sims can all build this skill.
  • The Swordsmanship skill is needed to progress in the Noble career.
  • Sims can use this skill to duel for:
    • Love: For Sims in a love triangle, they can duel their rival to win the heart of the one they love!
    • Headship: Challenge a Dynasty Head for the top spot.
    • Noble Rivalry: Challenge another Sim who’s blocking advancement in the Noble career.
    • Marriage: Duel the Dynasty Head or the parents of an intended spouse for permission to Marry.
    • Fun: Dueling builds the Swordsmanship skill and Sims’ Fun Need.
    • Simoleons: Duel another Sim for financial gain - or loss!
    • Career Promotion: Duel to level up in a career, but be warned, losing can have an adverse effect.

How to build the Swordsmanship skill

There are multiple ways for your Sim to build the Swordsmanship skill. New interactions are unlocked when your Sim reaches higher skill levels.

Practice swordfighting

To begin building this skill, start practicing swordfighting. Your Sims can do this in a number of ways:
  • Using the Swings ‘n’ Spins Practice Dummy, which can be purchased from Build Mode.
  • Duel with other Sims. Sims can do this to achieve a goal, too, like winning Simoleons and challenging a suitor for another Sim’s heart.
  • Taking part in a Swordsmanship Tournament. Each neighborhood in the world of Ondarion has a gazebo where these Goaled Events can be started.
    • These Tournaments have three tiers, each with three rounds.
    • Each Tournament has a price to enter: Gunther Goth’s Cup §25, Regional Ondarion Invitational §50, and the SimNation Grand Masters §100.
    • Each Tournament has a required Swordsmanship skill level to enter.
    • Winning grants your Sim a Simoleon prize for first, second, or third place. You may even win a rare sword.
Your Sim will need a sword to practice this skill. Buy one from the Blacksmith. Select the Blacksmith’s shop, and choose Ask Blacksmith to Craft a Sword. In the pop-up menu, choose from the available options. Some will be grayed out if your Sim doesn’t have a high enough Swordsmanship skill level yet.
The Blacksmith’s shop can be found in the neighbourhood of Verdemar, next to Ye Old Voyager Bar Lot.
Swords can also be bought from the Swings ‘n’ Spins Practice Dummy and the computer. Sims can find swords in Treasure Chests or at stalls around the world of Ondarion. There are 11 swords that can be bought or collected:
  • Wooden Sword
  • Classic Longsword
  • Bellacorde Rapier
  • Dambele Saber
  • Verdemar Falcata
  • Thorn of Roses Rapier
  • The Power of Many Sabre
  • Sentry of the Sea Falcata
  • Vorpal Blade
  • Royal Golden Sword
  • Simcalibur is the rarest Sword, and there is only one. This can only be found in the stone in the neighborhood of Verdemar, in front of Ye Old Voyager Bar. If your Sim successfully draws it from the stone, they have to keep it happy!
    • If you wish for another Sim to wield Simcalibur, it must be returned to the stone.
    • Hint: it prefers Nobles who are Commoner Favoured and have a high level in the Swordsmanship skill.

Read skill books

Reading skill books will work towards building skills, but it is slower than other methods. Books will only get you as far as level 9 of a skill.  To buy skill books:
  1. 1
Select a bookshelf and choose Purchase Books.
  2. 2
In the pop-up, select the drop-down at the top-left that reads Show All.
  3. 3
Choose Skill and scroll through to find the book you want to buy. These will be added to your Sim’s bookshelf.
The skill books are:
  • Swordsmanship Vol 1: Strike Left, Feint Right
  • Swordsmanship Vol 2: Let Them Swing
  • Swordsmanship Vol 3: Rodrigo, Joanne and other Swordsmasters

Go to a skill-building class

If you own The Sims 4 Discover University Expansion Pack, your Sim can attend skill-building classes. These are rabbit-holes, so your Sim will leave the Lot for some time and then come back when the class is over.
  1. 1
In Live Mode, select your Sim’s phone.
  2. 2
Open the Business app (the briefcase icon).
  3. 3
Choose Sit in on Skill Class (§250).
  4. 4
In the pop-up menu, choose Swordsmanship. Your Sim will leave the Lot and gain Swordsmanship skill while at the class.
Note: Skill Classes are only available between 9 AM - 9 PM.

Using the whiteboard

If you own The Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies Expansion Pack, your Sim can learn or teach the Swordsmanship skill using the Sharing is Caring Whiteboard. You’ll find this in Build Mode.

Swordsmanship skill levels

As your Sim builds the Swordsmanship skill, they’ll unlock new rewards, abilities, and interactions along the way.

Swordsmanship skill cheats

When using skill cheats, type in the number of the level you want to reach. For example, putting stats.set_skill_level major_swordsmanship 7 into the cheat bar will get your Sim’s Swordsmanship skill up to level 7.
  1. 1
Press Control + Shift + C to open the cheat dialogue box.
  2. 2
Type testingcheats true and press Enter to turn on cheats.
  3. 3
Type stats.set_skill_level major_swordsmanship [skill level] and press Enter.
