Everything you need to know about setting up Origin In-Game — including using it with the September 2018 Mojave OS update.

How do I turn on Origin In-Game?

Enable Origin In-Game and get the most out of your gaming experience:

  1. Open the Origin client and log into your EA Account.
  2. Click the Origin menu and select Application Settings.
  3. Click the Origin In-Game tab.
  4. Toggle the On/Off switch to turn Origin In-Game on or off.

Here’s where you can also change any other Origin In-Game settings you’d like.

Awesome. Now how do I use Origin In-Game?

If you're in the middle of a game, hold the Shift key and press F1 to access Origin In-Game. You can change the keyboard shortcut from Shift+F1 to something else in the Origin In-Game settings.

Choose the feature you want by pressing its icon at the bottom of the screen.

If you're playing a game that's game pad/keyboard only, you'll still need to use your mouse to navigate Origin In-Game.

Can I check out my frames per second (FPS)?

You sure can! Origin can track and display your FPS to keep you updated on how well your system is performing.

Want to turn it on?

  1. Open Origin.
  2. Click Origin in the top menu bar.
  3. Choose Application Settings.
  4. Select the Origin In-Game tab.
  5. Under During Gameplay, choose where to show the FPS counter or to not display it at all.
How do I get my friends to join my multiplayer game?

You can do this in one of two ways:

  • Right-click on a friend's name and select View Profile to see what your friends are playing.
  • Start playing your game and hit Shift+F1 to launch Origin In-Game. Click the Friend icon along the bottom of your screen to open your Friend List. Right-click your friend and select Invite to Game.
    • They'll see a window pop-up with a Join button.

Get an invite from your friend while you’re playing another game? Accept or decline by pressing Y or N. We’ll give you ten seconds to change your mind before your current game will close and the new game will open.

This is available for most games in Origin.

Origin In-Game on Mac/OS

The Mojave OS update for Mac has some new and enhanced security features, including System Integrity Protection (SIP). SIP effects third party-apps, protecting them from certain forms of exploits and tampering (like code injections).

Unfortunately, because of SIP, Origin In-Game currently won’t work if you upgrade to Mojave OS. For now, you can turn off SIP to use Origin In-Game on Mac.

Follow these steps to disable SIP:

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. While your computer is restarting, hold down Command + R to launch Recovery Mode.
    • You’ll know you did this right if you see macOS Utilities.
  3. Click Utilities on the top menu bar.
    • Don’t choose Disk Utilities in the middle of your screen.
  4. Choose Terminal.
  5. Type csrutil disable.
  6. Press Return or Enter on your keyboard.
  7. Restart your computer to apply these changes.

If you need to re-enable SIP, follow these steps again, but type csrutil enable in the terminal.

We’ll update this article when there’s a more permanent fix.

Everything you need to know about streaming in Origin.

Origin makes broadcasting your gameplay easy, so you can show off your skills to other gamers around the world.

I’m ready to broadcast my game on Twitch

Sweet! First thing’s first, you’ll need to adjust your Twitch security features so that Origin and Twitch run smoothly together, while keeping your account safe. To do this:

  1. Log into your Twitch Account on twitch.tv.
  2. Click on your account icon (on the top of the screen) and go to Settings.
  3. Click on the Channel and Videos tab.
  4. Under the section titled Stream Key & Preferences, click to enable two-factor authentication.
  5. Follow the pop-ups to enable two-factor authentication and get your stream key.

Now that you’re secure, follow these steps to start streaming Origin games on Twitch:

  1. Start playing your game.
  2. Bring up Origin In-Game by hitting Shift+F1 (or whatever keystroke you’ve mapped it to in your settings).
  3. Click Broadcast Gameplay.
  4. Sign in with your Twitch account or create a new one.

After you sign in, you can adjust your volume levels, broadcast resolution, framerate, or picture quality in Advanced Settings.

When you start streaming, a bar will appear at the top of the Origin In-Game screen to let you know that you're live. It also shows how many viewers are currently watching.

If you prefer not knowing just how many eyes are on your gameplay session, you can choose to hide the viewer count in Advanced Settings.

If you have any issues with Twitch, check out the Twitch.TV Help Center.

What about broadcasting my Steam games?

  1. Start Origin and go to Add Game. Choose Add Games Manually and select your Steam directory (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam.exe). Click Open to add Steam.
  2. Go to Application Settings and choose the In-Game tab.
    • Make sure you have selected Enable Origin In-Game.

Once you’ve set your defaults, follow these steps every time you start your Steam game:

  1. Quit Steam (if you did not launch the game from Origin previously).
  2. Launch Steam from Origin.
  3. Launch your game from Steam.

You should see the Origin In-Game pop-up. Hit Shift+F1 (or your custom Origin In-Game shortcut) and click on the Broadcast button to start your broadcast.
