Yes, you can play SW:TOR on Steam and buy your subscription there too. To get started, create a Steam account and link it to your SW:TOR account.

Here’s how to play SW:TOR through Steam:

  1. Launch Steam and log in with your Steam account.
  2. Add Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ to your game library.
  3. Before you start downloading, double-check your language settings.
    • Right-click on SW:TOR in your Steam library.
    • Click Properties.
    • Click on the Language tab.
    • Choose the language you want to play in and confirm if you’re asked to.
  4. Download the game client.
  5. Launch SW:TOR and log in with your SW:TOR username and password.

Yes, when you download and launch SW:TOR through Steam for the first time, you’ll be asked to sign in to the SW:TOR launcher. Doing this automatically links your SW:TOR account to the Steam account that’s currently signed in on your computer.

Using a shared computer? Make sure you’re logged in to your personal Steam account every time you log in to SW:TOR.

What if I linked the wrong account?

To unlink your Steam account:

  1. Log in to your SW:TOR account.
  2. Open Overview.
  3. Select the Steam account button.

Can I link my old SW:TOR account to Steam?

If you already have a SW:TOR account, you can link it to Steam. Add the game to your Steam Library, download it, and sign in with your SW:TOR credentials to link them.

There are different versions of the launcher.

  • Direct Download Launcher: if you downloaded from swtor.com.
  • Steam Launcher: if you play through Steam.

To switch launchers, uninstall the one you currently use. The steps to remove all versions of the launcher are the same:

  1. Log out of the game completely.
  2. Open Add/Remove programs on your computer.
  3. Select Star Wars: The Old Republic.
  4. Choose Uninstall.
  5. Restart your computer before downloading a new launcher.
  6. Download the game client.
  7. Launch SW:TOR from Steam and log in with your SW:TOR username and password. This links your SW:TOR account and your Steam account.

If you have any issues with Steam transactions, like needing a refund or having trouble with the payment method, you’ll need to contact Steam support.

I didn't get the content I bought on Steam

If you were logged in to the game when you made your purchase on Steam (like Cartel Coins, a subscription, or a bundle) log out of the game and log back in. This will refresh your account and should make the purchases appear.

Check your email for a receipt from Steam to make sure your payment went through.

If you still can’t see the item, contact SW:TOR support and send us screenshots of your Steam account, and of the transaction. Don’t edit, crop, or blur the images. They must be fully visible and unedited.

  1. Log in to the Steam client.
    • Select your username at the top right.
    • Choose Account Details.
  2. Take a screenshot of your entire account details page, clearly showing your Steam account name and Steam ID.
  3. Select View Purchase History.
  4. Take a screenshot of your entire Purchase History screen, clearly showing the SW:TOR transaction.

I bought a pack through Steam but it won’t let me buy another one

You can buy a regular or Deluxe version of a pack but Steam blocks buying another version if you already own some of the content in the new pack.

Contact SW:TOR support and share your SW:TOR User ID if you need help with:

  • technical troubleshooting
  • an in-game issue
  • your SW:TOR account
  • something you bought
  • your subscription.

Contact Steam support if you need help with your Steam account.
