If your Sim dreams of becoming an Astronaut or visiting the secret world of Sixam, this skill is essential. The Rocket Science skill lets your Sims build rocket ships, travel to space, and discover rare collectibles. In this guide, you’ll learn how to build the skill, what each level unlocks, how to access new rocket upgrades, and the fastest ways to reach level 10, including cheats!
About the Rocket Science skill
- The Rocket Science skill comes with The Sims 4 Base Game, and is a 10 level skill.
- Elder, Adult, Young Adult, and Teen Sims can all build this skill.
- The Rocket Science skill is needed to progress in the Astronaut career.
- The Rocket Science skill is needed to complete the Nerd Brain Aspiration.
- If you enjoy collecting in The Sims 4, traveling to space in the rocket ship is a great way to find rare collectibles!
- The Science Lair Lot Trait increases how fast your Sim builds this skill.
How to build the Rocket Science skill
There are multiple ways for your Sim to build the Rocket Science skill. Some interactions are only unlocked when your Sim reaches a certain level.Buy the Steampunk Flyamajig rocketship from Build Mode. Building the rocketship costs §1,000.It takes around twelve in-game hours for your Sim to complete the build, and they’ll be building rocket science skill at the same time. You can ask other Sims to help build the rocketship, which will speed up the process! Reaching level ten of the Astronaut career unlocks a new rocket ship depending on which branch your Sim is in:
- the Apollo Rocketship in the Space Ranger branch
- the Retro Rockership in the Interstellar Smuggler branch.
Teen Sims can also build this skill by working on the School Project: Air Pressure Rocketry.
Reading skill books will work towards building skills, but is slower than other methods. Books will only get you as far as level 9 of a skill. To buy skill books:The skill books are:
- 1Select a bookshelf and choose Purchase Books.
- 2In the pop-up, select the drop-down at the top-left that reads Show All.
- 3Choose Skill and scroll through to find the book you want to buy. These will be added to your Sim’s bookshelf.

If you own The Sims 4 Jungle Adventure Game Pack, the Peace and Quiet Lot Trait helps your Sim build skill faster when reading skill books.
If you own The Sims 4 Discover University Expansion Pack, your Sim can attend skill-building classes. These are rabbit-holes, so your Sim will leave the Lot for some time and then come back when the class is over. Note: Skill Classes are only available between 9 a.m.–9 p.m.
- 1In Live Mode, select your Sim’s phone.
- 2Open the Business app (the briefcase icon).
- 3Choose Sit in on Skill Class (§250).
- 4In the pop-up menu, choose Rocket Science. Your Sim will leave the Lot and gain Rocket Science skill while in class.
If you own The Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies Expansion Pack, your Sim can learn or teach the Rocket Science skill using the Sharing is Caring Whiteboard. You’ll find this in Build Mode.
Rocket Science skill levels
As your Sim builds the Rocket Science skill, they’ll unlock new rewards, abilities, and interactions along the way. A green progress bar will appear above your Sim’s head and gradually fill up as they’re building a skill. You can also check their progress by:- 1Entering Live Mode.
- 2Selecting the Sim Panel (bottom left).
- 3Selecting the Skills tab.
At this level, your Sim can do the following with the Steampunk Flyamajig rocket ship:
- Build Rockets
- Upgrade Landing Stabilizers
- Explore Space
At this level, your Sim can build and upgrade rockets faster.
At this level, your Sim can Expand Fuel Storage Tanks for Rockets.
At this level, your Sim can build and upgrade rockets faster.
At this level, your Sim can:
- Upgrade to Improve Maneuvering Thrusters on Rockets
- Mentor others in this skill
At this level, your Sim can Expand Cargo Bay on Rockets.
At this level, your Sim can:
- Build and upgrade Rockets faster
- Install Cannon Defense System on a Rocket
At this level, your Sim can build and upgrade rockets faster.
At this level, your Sim can Install Automated Landing Computer Upgrades on Rockets.
At this level, your Sim can Install Wormhole Generator on Rockets.
Rocket Science skill cheats
When using skill cheats, type in the number of the level you want to reach. For example, putting stats.set_skill_level major_rocketscience 7 into the cheat bar will get your Sim’s Rocket Science skill up to level 7.PC and Mac
