- Make sure the console is picking up both controllers and that the Xbox symbol light is lit for both players. Series S and X users may have to plug the second controller into the front USB port. Heads-up that you’ll need at least two users (gamertags) created on your console and a controller assigned to each gamertag.
- From the DIRT 5 menu, the second player needs to press and hold the View button.
- Choose the gamertag (which must be different from player one).
- You’ll each get a message letting you know that the second player is now in the game with you.
- Go to the Arcade option of the game. If Time Trial appears to be grayed out, the game has registered that there are two players and you’ll know you’ve entered split-screen mode. If it isn’t grayed out, repeat step 2.
- Choose Freeplay and adjust the settings how you like. Make sure you have two-player mode enabled.
- Each player must complete the first tutorial race.
