Having connection issues while playing EA SPORTS FC™? Try our Connection Quality troubleshooting tips.
Connection troubleshooting steps
Your personal network connection has a big impact on your Connection Quality and your online gameplay experience. These are advanced network changes. For specific instructions for your hardware, follow your router’s manual. Before trying the steps in this article, use the EA Connection Quality Report to see how your connection is rated.
If your Connection Quality is normally Good or Great but dropped
Try the troubleshooting steps if:- you unexpectedly have Okay or Poor matches in your Match History.
- you notice connection monitoring icons in your EAS FC matches that aren’t usually there.
Shut down and restart your game
You might experience connectivity issues if you were matched to a different Game Data Center than usual.Restart your router
If your router and modem are separate, try restarting both. Wait at least 30 seconds before turning your router and modem back on.Check what else is happening on your network
You might experience a slower connection if you’re using your network for multiple activities, like:- downloading large files
- streaming HD or 4K videos
- sharing the network with many people while playing.
If your Connection Quality is inconsistent
Play on a wired connection
You’re more likely to experience network interference when playing through Wi-Fi because it moves the packets of game data through the air. An ethernet cable usually ensures a more stable connection.Change your Wi-Fi network connection
- If you can’t use a wired connection, you can choose between 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands if your router supports it.
- 2.4GHz connections tend to have a longer range, meaning you can sustain a connection further away from your wireless router. However, 2.4GHz is generally slower and leads to higher ping and potential network instability (packet loss and jitter).
- 5GHz is a faster connection and generally provides a more stable Wi-Fi connection. Because 5GHz has a shorter range than a 2.4GHz connection, try to set up your router as close to your gaming device as possible.
Change your Wi-Fi channel
- If you’re playing in an area with many other Wi-Fi connections or electronic devices, you may end up with overlapping channels. This can lead to slower speeds and network instability.
- Changing your Wi-Fi channel to one that doesn’t overlap with others can provide a faster and more stable connection.
- If you’re playing using the 2.4GHz band, selecting a non-overlapping channel may be your best option: channels 1, 6, and 11. You might need to try multiple channels to find the best option for you.
