Learn about the SW:TOR Public Test Server (PTS), including how to access it, and how to copy your SW:TOR characters over from live game servers.

What’s the Public Test Server (PTS)?

The PTS is a dedicated server used to test upcoming game content. It’s only available to SW:TOR subscribers during specific times.
PTS isn’t available in German or French, and the content isn’t final. It’s not guaranteed to be exactly the same when it arrives on live game servers.

How to access the PTS server

You can access the PTS using your SW:TOR game launcher, but you need to download a different version of the game client.
  1. 1
Log in to the SW:TOR  launcher.
  2. 2
    Click the Settings button.
  3. 3
Under Enable Public Test Server Access, select Yes.
  4. 4
Click Save and go back to the launcher's main screen.
  5. 5
If the PTS is active and your account has an active subscription, the lower left corner of the launcher will now have two buttons. Click the button next to settings (it has two arrows coming out of a circle on it).
  6. 6
Under Pick an Environment select Public Test.
  7. 7
Click Next to begin downloading the Public Test Server client.

How to copy your character to the PTS

You can copy your existing SW:TOR character from the live game server to the PTS. This won’t transfer your character to the PTS but will create a new copy of it instead. You can create multiple copies of the same character. Characters can’t be copied back from the PTS and they’re deleted after the testing phase is over.Character copy might not always be possible. If it isn’t, you can create a new character on the PTS. For some tests, there is a leveling terminal you can use to boost your character's level.
  1. 1
Go to www.swtor.com and log in.
  2. 2
    Click on  Account.
  3. 3
Click on PTS Character Copy and select the character you want to copy.
  4. 4
Click Copy Character to start the copying process, which can take around an hour.
  5. 5
The copy of the selected character will now appear on the PTS server.
Character Copying is automated, our Advisors can’t help if you run into any problems. To report any problems with PTS and character copying, post in the Public Test Server forums.
