Apex Legends™ Legends guide: classes, abilities, and tips

5 min read

Overview

Each Legend has three unique abilities: an ultimate (their strongest ability), a tactical (a skill with a lower cooldown that can be used more often), and a passive ability that’s always active or can be activated as needed. Learn each Legend’s skills, class, and release Season in our guide.

Who are the Legends?

Legends are the playable characters in Apex Legends. There are currently 28 Legends.
Only some Legends are unlocked when you start the game, but you can unlock more as you play. Learn how to unlock more Legends in our beginner’s guide.

What are Apex Legends classes?

Legends are divided into five classes: Assault, Controller, Recon, Skirmisher, and Support. Classes determine a Legend’s fighting style and give them unique perks.
AssaultCombat-focused play.
ControllerArea control and strategy.
ReconTrack enemies and gather intel.
SkirmisherFast-paced combat and mobility.
SupportHelp and heal your squad.
Legend classes are only available in Core modes of Apex Legends, like Ranked and Unranked.

Check out our Apex Legends game modes guide for more info.

Who’s the newest Apex Legend?

Axle is the newest Apex Legend. She’s a Skirmisher Legend.Axle in black armor mid-action, throwing a glowing disc weapon against a bright pink background beside the Apex Legends logo.
Tactical: Nitro Gates Throw your gate down in front of you and use it to launch into a high-speed slide. Allies and enemies can use your gate too.
Passive: DriftIncreased control when sliding.
Ultimate: KickstartDeploy an enemy-seeking drone.

Assault Legends

Assault Legends carry more ammo per stack and have extra grenade slots. They also use weapons faster than other Legends, and when their shield is broken, their reload and movement speed temporarily increases. Assault Legends can access the secret compartment of Supply Bins, which contain weapon attachments.

Controller Legends

Controllers can use Ring Consoles to find the next Ring location. When Controllers play inside the Ring, their shields get an extra 25HP overcharge. This bonus is removed when they leave the Ring. Controllers can also pick up their traps and other nearby placeables remotely by looking back at them and pressing a button.

Recon Legends

Recon Legends scan Survey Beacons faster and their location isn’t revealed while doing so. Each Survey Beacon scan covers a wide radius around them, and reveals enemy positions three times per scan. Recon Legends also get threat vision while aiming down sights, although this can be blocked by smoke, walls, and range.

Skirmisher Legends

Skirmishers can get in and out of fights faster than other Legends, and can spot incoming Care Packages. They gain faster movement when using consumables, which helps them disengage from combat. Skirmishers’ allies also move faster when moving towards them.

Support Legends

Support Legends can move faster while healing, and their revive speed is higher. If you have a Support Legend on your team, Mobile Respawn Beacons will always spawn in ally death boxes. If you can get the banner from their death box, you’ll also find a Mobile Respawn Beacon to bring them back to the match.

How do I pick a Legend?

Before you start an Apex Legends match, choose your Legend from the Select Legend screen. You can only choose Legends you’ve unlocked, and you can’t change your Legend once you’re in a match. If you don’t choose a Legend in time, you’ll play as the Legend you selected in the Lobby. To change your Legend in the Lobby
  1. 1
    Select the Legends tab.
  2. 2
Choose the Legend you want to play.
