Overview
Each Legend has three unique abilities: an ultimate (their strongest ability), a tactical (a skill with a lower cooldown that can be used more often), and a passive ability that’s always active or can be activated as needed. Learn each Legend’s skills, class, and release Season in our guide.
Who are the Legends?
Legends are the playable characters in Apex Legends. There are currently 28 Legends.Only some Legends are unlocked when you start the game, but you can unlock more as you play. Learn how to unlock more Legends in our beginner’s guide.
What are Apex Legends classes?
Legends are divided into five classes: Assault, Controller, Recon, Skirmisher, and Support. Classes determine a Legend’s fighting style and give them unique perks.| Assault | Combat-focused play. | ||

Assault Legends
Assault Legends carry more ammo per stack and have extra grenade slots. They also use weapons faster than other Legends, and when their shield is broken, their reload and movement speed temporarily increases. Assault Legends can access the secret compartment of Supply Bins, which contain weapon attachments.Released: The Preseason (Season 0).
- Tactical: Smoke Launcher.
- Fire a smoke canister that explodes into a smoke wall on impact. Smoke canisters can break or breach doors.
- Passive: Double Time.
- Taking fire while sprinting will temporarily make you faster.
- Ultimate: Rolling Thunder.
- Call in an artillery strike that slowly creeps over the landscape.
Released: Mayhem (Season 8).
- Tactical: Knuckle Cluster.
- Launch a cluster bomb that continuously sends out airburst explosives on impact.
- Passive: Grenadier.
- Stack an extra grenade per inventory slot and fire grenades faster, farther, and more accurately.
- Ultimate: The Motherlode.
- Fire a piercing projectile that explodes against the ground and sprays out smaller explosives around its landing point.
Released: Escape (Season 11).
- Tactical: Arc Snare.
- Throw a spinning snare that damages and tethers the first enemy who gets close.
- Passive: Predator’s Pursuit.
- Ash’s map will show the location of recent death boxes.
- Second Passive: Dash.
- Double dash when you upgrade. If you change direction to dash, you’ll get less of a boost.
- Ultimate: Phase Breach.
- Create a one-way portal to a targeted location.
Released: Defiance (Season 12).
- Tactical: Riot Drill.
- Fire a drill that burns enemies through obstacles.
- Passive: Warlord’s Ire.
- Temporarily highlight enemies you’ve damaged and move faster with a shotgun.
- Ultimate: Wrecking Ball.
- Throw a ball that releases speed-boosting pads and detonates near enemies.
Released: Arsenal (Season 17).
- Tactical: Whistler.
- Shoot a projectile that heats up an enemy’s gun as they shoot, overheating the weapon and causing damage.
- Passive: Sling.
- Store a third weapon in the Sling, which you can access via inventory or Character Utility Action. Ballistic’s Sling upgrades with Legend upgrades and can carry crate weapons.
- Ultimate: Tempest.
- While Tempest is active, nearby teammates gain faster reloads, increased armed movement speed, a speed boost, disruptor rounds, and infinite ammo. Ballistic’s Sling weapon will also be equipped and upgraded to gold.
Controller Legends
Controllers can use Ring Consoles to find the next Ring location. When Controllers play inside the Ring, their shields get an extra 25HP overcharge. This bonus is removed when they leave the Ring. Controllers can also pick up their traps and other nearby placeables remotely by looking back at them and pressing a button.Released: The Preseason (Season 0).
- Tactical: Nox Gas Trap.
- Drop canisters that release deadly Nox gas when shot or triggered by enemies.
- Passive: Nox Vision.
- See enemies through your gas.
- Second Passive: Field Research.
- Gain research points from poisoning enemies and opening death boxes. When you have enough points, you’ll gain an upgrade. Caustic can have up to four upgrades at once.
- Ultimate: Nox Gas Grenade.
- Blanket a large area in Nox gas. Gas reacts to ordnance and abilities, meaning other players can disrupt it.
Released: Battle Charge (Season 2).
- Tactical: Perimeter Security.
- Connect nodes to create electrified fences that damage and slow down enemies. Fences near doors will electrify them.
- Passive: Spark of Genius.
- Ultimate Accelerants fully charge your ultimate ability.
- Ultimate: Interception Pylon.
- Place an electrified pylon that destroys incoming ordnance and repairs damaged shields. Intercepted ordnances are converted into Arc Stars.
- Wattson’s ultimate rebuilds and fortifies all nearby broken Hardlight glass.
Released: Boosted (Season 6).
- Tactical: Amped Cover.
- Build a crouch-cover wall that deploys a full-cover amped wall to block incoming shots and make outgoing shots more powerful. Damage through or to your amped wall charges the wall, and jumping over the wall converts the charge to a speed boost
- Passive: Battle Modder.
- Increase your magazine capacity and reload faster when using LGMs and the Minigun. Amped walls gain health with each EVO level.
- Ultimate: Emplaced Minigun “Sheila”.
- Place a mounted gun with high-ammo capacity that anyone can use. The Minigun has a long reload time.
Released: Eclipse (Season 15).
- Tactical: Piercing Spikes.
- Throw a patch of ferrofluid, which turns into spikes when enemies are near. Catalyst is immune to enemy spikes.
- Passive: Barricade.
- Reinforce up to four doors to keep enemies out. Spaces where doors were destroyed can also be reinforced.
- Ultimate: Dark Veil.
- Raise a permeable wall of ferrofluid, which can be toggled to be deployed horizontally. Enemies who walk through it will be temporarily slowed down and blinded, and bullets will cause 50% less damage.
Recon Legends
Recon Legends scan Survey Beacons faster and their location isn’t revealed while doing so. Each Survey Beacon scan covers a wide radius around them, and reveals enemy positions three times per scan. Recon Legends also get threat vision while aiming down sights, although this can be blocked by smoke, walls, and range.Released: The Preseason (Season 0).
- Tactical: Eye of the Allfather.
- Briefly reveal hidden enemies, traps, and clues throughout structures in front of you.
- Passive: Tracker.
- See tracks left behind by your enemies.
- Ultimate: Beast of the Hunt.
- Move faster and highlight enemy players.
Released: Meltdown (Season 3).
- Tactical: Surveillance Drone.
- Deploy an aerial drone to view the surrounding area from above. If your drone is destroyed, you have to wait 40 seconds before using another.
- Passive: Neurolink.
- If your Surveillance Drone finds enemies within 30 meters of your position, they’ll be marked for you and your teammates.
- You get threat vision, one of the Recon class abilities, while piloting your drone.
- Ultimate: Drone EMP.
- Your Surveillance Drone sets off an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) blast that damages shields, slows down enemies, and disables traps.
Released: Emergence (Season 10).
- Tactical: Focus of Attention.
- Summon micro-drones to emit a delayed blast that goes through walls to reveal enemies. When you use your tactical with a gun drawn, the time it takes to holster that weapon reduces. Scanning an enemy also gives you a speed boost.
- Passive: Heart Seeker.
- Hear and visualize the heartbeats of nearby enemies when you’re aiming down sights.
- Ultimate: Exhibit.
- Create a sphere of micro-drones that shows the locations of enemies moving quickly or firing their weapons inside it. When you’re inside an Exhibit sphere, your jumping and aim down sights skills are enhanced.
Released: Hunted (Season 14).
- Tactical: Echo Relocation.
- Position your bat Echo and then launch towards him. You have to keep Echo in sight to launch.
- Passive: Spotter’s Lens.
- Aim down sights to scout with your eyepiece and use a bullet drop indicator to see where your shots will land.
- Tracking a team with Spotter’s Lens generates ultimate charge.
- Ultimate: Sniper’s Mark.
- Use your custom sniper rifle to mark enemy targets and apply a damage bonus for you and your team.
Released: Prodigy (Season 25).
- Passive: Double Jump.
- Perform a second jump in the air or press jump to launch up a wall.
- Tactical: Tracker Dart.
- Shoot a trap that reveals enemies who walk within its line of sight.
- Ultimate: Stinger Bolt.
- Shoot a large arrow into the ground that will charge and then release six damaging blasts. Stinger Bolt’s pulses slow down all players, including Sparrow.
Sparrow tips
- 1Use Sparrow for scouting—send him to find enemy teams and activate your Survey Beacons from a distance.
- 2Use Double Jump to take higher routes, get out of the Ring, or reposition by jumping against walls.
- 3Use Tracker Darts to see if enemies are nearby or hiding in buildings you want to explore.
- 4Be careful with arrows—if an enemy spots one, they’ll know you’re around.
- 5Use Stinger Bolt to force enemies out of positions. Combine with grenades to make the perfect entry.
Skirmisher Legends
Skirmishers can get in and out of fights faster than other Legends, and can spot incoming Care Packages. They gain faster movement when using consumables, which helps them disengage from combat. Skirmishers’ allies also move faster when moving towards them.Released: The Preseason (Season 0).
- Tactical: Stim.
- Move 30% faster for six seconds. Stim costs health to use.
- Stim Surge: If Octane uses his tactical while already using Stim, he’ll get Stim Surge. It grants damage reduction, immunity to bullet slow, starts his passive healing and allows passive healing to regenerate through damage.
- Passive: Swift Mend.
- Automatically restore your health over time. How quickly you generate health depends on how much health you have.
- Ultimate: Launch Pad.
- Deploy a jump pad that catapults your teammates through the air. Octane’s base kit includes double pads.
Released: The Preseason (Season 0).
- Tactical: Grappling Hook.
- Quickly grapple to out-of-reach places. Your cooldown depends on how far you grappled. You can also get a double tactical charge, but you’ll lose the variable cooldown.
- Passive: Insider Knowledge.
- Scan a survey beacon to find the Ring’s next location.
- Ultimate: Zipline Gun.
- Create a zipline that everyone can use.
Released: The Preseason (Season 0).
- Tactical: Into the Void.
- Get to a new location quickly through a void space. Void space protects you from all damage.
- Passive: Voices from the Void.
- A voice will warn you when danger is approaching.
- Ultimate: Dimensional Rift.
- Link two locations for 60 seconds with a portal that your whole team can use.
Released: Assimilation (Season 4).
- Tactical: Shadow Pounce.
- Pounce forward. Hold to charge and go further distances.
- Passive: Assassin’s Instinct.
- Highlight nearby visible enemies who are low on health. You can walk faster while crouching and have improved wall climbing.
- Ultimate: Forged Shadows.
- Create shadows around you that block damage and regenerate over time. Your shadows and tactical are refreshed on knockdowns.
Released: Ascension (Season 7).
- Tactical: Gravity Lift.
- Reverse the flow of gravity, lifting players upwards and boosting them outwards when they exit the lift.
- Passive: Spacewalk.
- Increase air control and reduce the impact of falling.
- Ultimate: Black Hole.
- Deploy N.E.W.T, your robotic vacuum companion, to create a micro black hole that pulls players towards it and hits them with a graviton blast at the end.
Released: Legacy (Season 9). Launch into the air and skydive. Allies can hook into take-off systems to come with you.
- Tactical: Missile Swarm.
- Fire a swarm of mini-rockets that damage and distract enemies. Valkyrie won’t take damage if she’s caught in the blast radius.
- Passive: VTOL Jets.
- Use jetpack fuel to fly. Fuel is limited but refills over time. Jetpack fuel won’t recharge while you’re in the air.
- Ultimate: Skyward Dive.
Released: Upheaval (Season 21).
- Tactical: Void Passage.
- Create a portal on either side of any surface that’s under 25m thick.
- Passive: Gift from the Rift.
- See death boxes through walls and take an item from them.
- Ultimate: Void Nexus.
- Spawn a device that your squad can go back to through a portal.
Support Legends
Support Legends can move faster while healing, and their revive speed is higher. If you have a Support Legend on your team, Mobile Respawn Beacons will always spawn in ally death boxes. If you can get the banner from their death box, you’ll also find a Mobile Respawn Beacon to bring them back to the match.Released: The Preseason (Season 0).
- Tactical: Dome of Protection.
- Create a dome shield that blocks attacks.
- Passive: Gun Shield.
- Aiming down sights deploys a gun shield that blocks incoming fire.
- Second Passive: Momentum Boost.
- If Gibraltar maintains his max sprint speed for two seconds, he gains a speed boost. Gibraltar can also break a door in one hit.
- Ultimate: Defensive Bombardment.
- Call in a concentrated mortar strike on a marked position.
Released: The Preseason (Season 0).
- Tactical: D.O.C Heal Drone.
- Call your Drone of Compassion (D.O.C) to follow you or an ally, providing emergency medical assistance on the go. D.O.C heals all nearby allies.
- Passive: Combat Medic.
- Deploy your D.O.C to revive teammates, leaving you free to move and defend.
- Second Passive: Combat Glide.
- Lifeline can grab D.O.C and glide for a few seconds.
- Ultimate: D.O.C Halo.
- Throw D.O.C to activate his Halo Shield System. The Halo Shield System blocks bullets, and helps players inside, including enemies, heal faster.
Released: The Preseason (Season 0).
- Tactical: Psyche Out.
- Send out a holographic decoy to confuse enemies.
- Passive: Now You See Me.
- Automatically cloak yourself when using Respawn Beacons and reviving teammates.
- Ultimate: Life of the Party.
- Deploy a team of decoys to distract your enemies.
Released: Fortune’s Favor (Season 5).
- Tactical: Burglar’s Best Friend.
- Teleport to hard-to-reach places or get out of trouble by throwing your Jump Drive bracelet.
- Passive: Eye for Quality.
- See nearby epic and legendary loot through walls.
- Ultimate: Black Market Boutique.
- Place a portable device that lets you teleport nearby loot to your inventory. Each friendly or enemy Legend can take up to two items.
Released: Saviors (Season 13).
- Tactical: Mobile Shield.
- Throw a controllable drone that creates a moving energy shield.
- Passive: Retrieve the Wounded.
- Protect downed allies as you revive them by dragging them with your Revive Shield.
- Ultimate: Castle Wall.
- Leap to an ally or target area and slam down, creating a fortified stronghold.
Released: Ignite (Season 19).
- Tactical: Radiant Transfer.
- Send energy to a teammate, generating temporary shields for them and Conduit when in danger. This ability has two charges.
- Passive: Savior’s Speed.
- Gain a burst of speed when running to a teammate out of Tactical range.
- If Savior’s Speed is active when sprinting towards a Skirmisher, Conduit moves faster.
- Ultimate: Energy Barricade.
- Deploy shield-jamming devices that damage and slow down enemies.
How do I pick a Legend?
Before you start an Apex Legends match, choose your Legend from the Select Legend screen. You can only choose Legends you’ve unlocked, and you can’t change your Legend once you’re in a match. If you don’t choose a Legend in time, you’ll play as the Legend you selected in the Lobby. To change your Legend in the Lobby:- 1Select the Legends tab.
