How does aging work in The Sims Mobile?

Sims age as they progress through life stages. There are five life stages in The Sims Mobile.
  • Baby
  • Toddler
  • Child
  • Adult
  • Elder

Aging and non-playable character (NPC) Sims

Although you can have Sims living in your household at other life stages, the only playable life stage is Adult. For example, child Sims are NPCs until they age up to an adult. NPC Sims age naturally over time, which is different from playable adult Sims. Babies, toddlers, and children age up manually after their life stage ends. If there's an open spot in the household, you can age them up into a playable adult Sim.

Aging and playable Sims

Instead of getting older every day, Adult Sims age based on their life experiences. Your Sim will age slowly as you complete Events and make progress in Stories.

How to age up a Sim in The Sims Mobile

You can make progress towards aging up your Sims through life experiences, like honing skills, furthering a career, building relationships, and completing Events.When your Sim meets specific milestones, a birthday cake icon will appear over their head. Tap the birthday cake icon to age up your Sim. When you age up your Sim, you can choose a new trait for them on each birthday.If your Sim reached a new age milestone but you didn’t use the birthday cake icon, follow these steps to age them up from the Info Panel.

How many traits can be unlocked by aging up a Sim?

Playable Sims in your household begin with one trait. As your Sim gains life experience and reaches age milestones, you can choose a new trait for them on each birthday. Adult Sims can have up to four traits. Each trait gives your Sims different bonuses that help them in different ways. Some traits increase chances for XP or daily login bonuses. Others give bonus Event points during certain Career, Hobby, or Social Events. When your Sim earns the maximum number of traits and reaches level 16, they’ll let you know they’re ready to retire.
If there are children in your household, your adult Sims can help unlock a fifth trait which will be usable when the child Sim ages up to an adult. Learn how to get the Good Upbringing trait for child Sims here.

How does retirement work in The Sims Mobile?

Sims will let you know they’re ready to retire when they’ve maxed out their traits. If you don’t want to retire them when you get the notification, you can do it whenever you’re ready by selecting the Info Panel and going to the Traits tab of the Sim you want to retire.You don’t ever have to retire a Sim if you don’t want to. However, there are benefits to retiring Sims that have maxed out their traits.
  • By retiring a Sim, you’ll free up a playable household slot. This will allow you to age up a child Sim or move another Adult Sim into your household.
  • Retired Sims can mentor your other playable Sims in the same household, earning them Career and Hobby XP.
  • When you retire a Sim, playable Adult Sims in your household will get an Heirloom that unlocks certain traits, careers, or hobbies.

What happens to retired Sims?

When you retire a Sim, they’ll age up to an Elder. They’ll still live in your household but will become an NPC. Elder Sims can help your playable Sims earn Career and Hobby XP by mentoring them. Once you choose to retire a Sim, you can’t undo or cancel it. Retired Sims don’t die. To remove them from your household, go to your Family Portrait, choose the retired Sim, and select Move Out. You don’t have to move out a retired Sim if you don’t want to.Want to add a baby to your family, but your household is full? Moving out retired Sims from a full household will make room for other NPCs, like children.

What’s a retirement Heirloom?

Retired Sims will leave behind an Heirloom. You can use Heirlooms to unlock certain traits, careers, or hobbies. If your playable Sim gets an Heirloom, you’ll be taken to the Heirloom screen in the store to open the Retirement Chests your retired Sim gave you.
