Who’s the best Legend to main?

As you play Apex Legends more, you might want to pick a Legend to master. Here are some things to keep in mind when you choose which Legend to main.

  • Classes: each Legend is part of a class which determines what kind of playstyle they fit. Before picking a Legend to main, figure out which class you like to play most.
  • Abilities: get to know the Legends’ unique abilities before you pick your main. Each Legend has different abilities which impact how they play.

Remember, you might not get to play the Legend you prefer every time. Picking a few main Legends to play as or choosing a backup Legend can help you win more often.

Play with your squad

When you play as a team, you need to work together to win. Keep communicating with your squad through ping or voice chat to help each other and make decisions together.

You can use ping to tell your squad what you’re doing, request items, let them know that there are enemies nearby, and tell them where items are. By staying close to your team, you can also prepare for enemies together.

Customize your targets in the Firing Range

Need help picking your weapon? Learn more about guns and weapons in Apex Legends, and how to choose the right gun for combat.

If you want a more advanced target practice in the Firing Range, you can change your settings to make things more difficult in the Customize Range tab.

  • Target Speed: make your Target Speed higher to make the moving blue targets in the Firing Range move faster.
  • DUMMIE Settings: make DUMMIEs harder to fight and target by changing these settings.
    • Turn Shield Level higher to give DUMMIEs more protection.
    • Movement: change how DUMMIEs move in the Firing Range. Strafe (Constant) and Strafe (Random) will make DUMMIEs harder to hit.
    • Stance: you can choose between Stand, Crouch, or Random Stance.
    • Set Move Speed to Run to make DUMMIEs faster.
    • Change your Shooting settings to let DUMMIEs shoot at you. If you want a challenge, pick Full Combat.
  • Dynamic DUMMIE Spawn Settings: choose where DUMMIEs spawn.
    • First, turn Dynamic Dummie Spawning on.
    • Choose your Dynamic Spawn Distance. You can choose different spawn distances to practice different skills.

You can also turn on Dynamic Stats to see key stats in the Firing Range like kills, headshots, and accuracy.

Train your aim

If you want to practice your aim in the game, you can visit the Firing Range to work on your skills. Here are a few tips to get started.

  • Try out different weapons to improve your aim on them all.
  • Shoot at DUMMIEs as if they’re real enemies by moving around, evading them, and targeting them while you move.
  • Keep an eye on where your shots go to see how accurate they are.

There are also a few factors you should keep in mind when you aim.

  • Bullet drop: different weapons have different bullet drop (how far a bullet falls as it moves through the air). Practice long range shooting in the Firing Range to see how bullet drop impacts different weapons.
  • Travel time: some weapons fire faster than others. Use different weapons to learn how fast their bullets travel.
    • As you learn more about bullet drop and travel time, you can aim where enemies will be when your bullet lands, rather than where they are when you first shoot.

You can also use aim trainers like Aim Labs to practice your aim outside the game.

As your aim improves, you might want to turn off Apex Legend’s aim assist. Follow these steps to turn off aim assist.

Find your best Field of View (FOV)

Field of View (FOV) is how far wide around yourself you can see on the screen. When your FOV is higher, you can see more around you.

When you start playing Apex Legends, your FOV will be set at 70. If you turn your FOV higher, you can see more of your surroundings, but far-off objects and enemies will appear smaller.

What FOV works best will depend on your preference and the platform you’re playing on, but you can turn it up as high as 110.

To change your FOV, follow these steps.

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Pick the Video tab.
  3. Click Field of View and increase or decrease it.

Change your Video settings

If you want to maximize your performance or frame rate settings, you should run Apex Legends on the lowest graphics settings you can. Playing the game on lower graphic settings gives your game more streaming budget to react, meaning you can get faster response times in matches.

You can change your graphic settings in Settings under the Video tab.

Find the best settings for your mouse or controller

The best settings for your controller or mouse and keyboard will depend on your personal preferences. There are no wrong settings to play with, and it’s best to keep experimenting to see how new settings work when you play—find what feels most comfortable for you.

One setting you might want to test is high or low sensitivity, which you can change in your Controller Settings or the Mouse/Keyboard tab. Low sensitivity will give you more control, while high sensitivity lets you aim more quickly.

If you want to start playing with a higher sensitivity, try increasing it slowly to get more comfortable with the speed.
