Overview

Passing, catching, and offensive controls can make a big difference in EA SPORTS™ College Football. Learning when to use different pass types, choosing the right catch type, and perfecting the kicking meter can help you make more plays on offense and special teams.

How to pass the ball in College Football

No matter what offensive scheme you run, choosing the right type of pass is just as important as choosing the right receiver.

How to throw a Bullet pass

A bullet pass throws the ball quickly and with maximum velocity.To throw a bullet pass, hold the receiver button until the quarterback releases the ball.You should use the bullet pass for:
  • throwing into tight coverage
  • quick slants and in-routes
  • beating defenders closing on the receiver.

How to throw a Lob pass

A lob pass puts more air under the ball so it can travel over defenders and farther downfield.To throw a lob pass, tap the receiver button quickly.You should use the lob pass for:
  • deep routes
  • one-on-one coverage downfield
  • throwing over trailing defenders.

How to throw a Touch pass

A touch pass sits between a bullet pass and a lob pass, adding just enough arc to drop the ball into space.To throw a touch pass, briefly hold the receiver button, then release it.Use the touch pass to:
  • leadreceivers into open space
  • throw over linebackers and underneath coverage
  • hit routes breaking toward the sideline.

Pass lead

Pass leading lets you guide the ball away from defenders and toward open space.To lead a pass, hold the left stick in the direction you want to lead the receiver while throwing the pass.Use pass leading to:
  • lead receivers away from coverage
  • throw in front of receivers on crossing or streak routes
  • place the ball where only your receiver can make the catch.

How to catch the ball in College Football

Choosing the right catch type can help your receiver secure the ball, gain extra yards, or win contested catches.

Possession catch

A possession catch prioritizes securing the ball over gaining extra yards.Use it for:
  • catching the ball in traffic
  • securing a first down
  • staying in bounds near the sideline.

Run after catch (RAC)

A run after catch attempt helps your receiver transition upfield quickly after making the catch.Use it for:
  • crossing routes
  • drag routes
  • catches made with open field ahead.

Aggressive catch

An aggressive catch gives your receiver the best chance to compete for the ball against a defender.Use it for:
  • jump-ball situations
  • end zone throws
  • tightly covered receivers.

How to kick the ball

Field goals, kickoffs, and punts all use a kicking meter to determine power and accuracy.

Tips for better passing, catching, and kicking

  • Read the defense before throwing.
  • Match the pass type to the route you’re targeting.
  • Use pass lead to throw away from defenders.
  • Choose the catch type that fits the situation.
  • Practice kicking in different game situations to improve your timing.
