Mods are a big part of The Sims community, so here’s how to download them safely.
Mods, also known as Game Mods or Custom Content, are additions you can download for your game that were created by others in The Sims community, not by Maxis.
A breakdown of the different types of Mods:
- Mods: A blanket term referring to any player-made content for the game. This includes both Custom Content and Game Mods.
- Custom Content (CC): This is player-made clothing or objects you can add to the game. Examples include hair, clothing, or furniture.
- Game Mods: These add features or change the functionalities of the game. They may include script code, but not always. Examples include a new trait, new console cheats, objects with new functionality, new UI functionality, etc.
When downloading Mods for The Sims 4, be careful to only download from a trusted source or creator.
Maxis and EA do not pre-screen, endorse, or support specific Mods or Custom Content. Therefore, use Mods and Custom Content with caution and understand there may be risks.
- Download the Mod on your PC or Mac. If it’s a .zip or .rar file, you’ll need to unzip it first.

- Launch The Sims 4.
- Open Game Options and select Other.
- Make sure that the Enable Custom Content and Mods option is checked.
- Relaunch The Sims 4 and your Mods should be available to in-game!
No, Mods are only available for PC and Mac players; they can’t be downloaded on PlayStation® or Xbox.
