Advanced Look Controls (ALC)
Advanced Look Controls (ALC) are settings that give you greater control over aiming and movement. You can change your default ALC settings from the main menu.- 1Go to Settings.

- 3Go down the list until you see Movement/Aiming.
- 4Select Enable ALC Settings.
Aim assist
Aim assist helps you aim your weapon in the game. Players who use a PC can have a reaction time advantage over console players who don’t use aim assist, so aim assist helps to better balance the game. Aim assist should be automatically turned on when you start playing. Find out how to turn aim assist off.Aim down sights (ADS)
ADS is a method that helps you aim with more control. It refers to aiming in first-person to get a better view of enemies.Battle Pass
The Battle Pass gives players the chance to earn rewards, like unique cosmetics and Apex Packs*, from the current Season. There are two Battle Passes every Season: one for the first split of the Season and one for the second.Every player can unlock some of these items each Season through normal play. Bot Royale is a mode that lets you play against bots. You can play alone, join a squad of bots, or play in a premade squad with friends.Challenges
Challenges are in-game tasks that you can complete to earn rewards. Challenges can be daily, weekly, or linked to an event.EA ID
Your Apex Legends EA ID (also sometimes called Public ID) is your EA Account name. Find out more about your EA ID.Events
Events bring exciting new gameplay changes, purchasable cosmetics, and free progression content to Apex Legends.- When a new Season launches, the game may get a new Legend, a map update, new loot items, new Battle Passes, and general updates.
- Themed events usually happen during a Season, which can include a limited-time mode, event Challenges, and new cosmetics.
- Collection events also happen during a Season, which can include a limited-time mode, event Challenges, and event-limited cosmetics.
FPS
Frames-per-second (FPS) helps determine how smooth your gameplay is. Most players aim for around 60 FPS as a standard in Apex Legends. Learn more about how to increase your FPS.Follow these steps to see your FPS in Apex Legends.Hitbox
A hitbox is the area of a Legend you need to hit to damage them. They’re not visible in-game. In Apex Legends, a Legend’s hitbox depends on their size, and isn’t the same size for every Legend. Legends with smaller hitboxes are harder to damage. Usually, larger Legends will also have larger hitboxes. The size of a Legend’s hitbox may change with game updates.Legends

Looking for group (LFG)
Looking for group or LFG is a term players use when they want to find others to play with.Limited-time mode (LTM)
An event mode that’s only available for a short period of time and contains unique game modes.Map rotation
The maps you play on in Apex Legends rotate. Every Season, three maps rotate and are available for a limited time.- In Battle Royale, maps rotate every 60 to 90 minutes.
- In Ranked mode, maps change every 24 hours.
Non Battle Royale (NBR)
Some Challenges have NBR, meaning Non Battle Royale, marked next to them. If you see NBR, it means you can complete this Challenge in other modes.Patch notes
Patch notes are updates to the game. They include information on things like new Legends, map changes, game updates, and more. Find out more about the latest patch notes at ea.com.Ping and packet loss
Ping, or latency, is the measurement of how long it takes for game data to be sent from your platform to the data centers and back.Packet loss is the measurement of the number, or percentage, of packets that fail to successfully make the round trip to the data centers and back.Get help improving your ping or packet loss.Season
Each Season comes with new content. This can include new Legends, fresh loot, and special events that change the Games. Plus, every Season comes with two Battle Passes, which let you unlock tons of unique content as you level up.Tags

Quips are unique phrases that Legends say.- Intro quips are played when someone inspects your profile or if you’re made the match’s Champion.
- Kill quips are played when you kill another player.
Match terms
When you drop into a match, make sure you’re playing by the rules.- Read about the rules in Apex Legends to make sure you’re playing fair.
- If you think someone is breaking the rules, learn how to report other players.
Anchoring
When you or your squad hold a specific spot. You might leave one player in one place to defend an area.Average damage per round (ADR)
The average amount of damage you cause other players per round.Away From Keyboard (AFK)
When a player is away from their keyboard.Buff
When the effectiveness or strength of something in-game is improved. Buffs can help make gameplay more balanced.Bubble
Gibraltar’s tactical ability, Dome of Protection, creates a bubble that protects him.Camping
When someone holds a position and doesn’t leave.Clutch up
A player’s ability to perform well in high-pressure scenarios of a match, often in the last minutes. If you clutch up, you might win unexpectedly.Cracked
Cracked is a term for broken armor.Dancing
When a player moves in and out of Gibraltar’s bubble to shoot at other players while staying protected in the bubble.Enemy Health Bar
When you damage a player and they’re in your line of sight, you’ll see a health bar above their head for three seconds. The health bar will disappear when you lose your line of sight.Enemy Highlights
If you have a line of sight on an enemy and they’re within 50 meters of you, your enemy will be highlighted. Their highlight color will change based on their distance from you.- Red: the highest intensity. This shows your enemy is close.
- Purple: the middle intensity.
- Yellow: the lowest intensity.
Entry fragger
An entry fragger is the first person on a team to engage in combat. They draw fire away from their team, giving their squad time to move forward. An entry fragger can be supported by a secondary fragger: a second person who joins a fight. A secondary fragger will focus on dealing damage while the entry fragger draws fire.EVO
EVO is points you earn while you play matches. How you earn EVO and what you can upgrade with earned EVO depends on which game mode you’re playing.Check out our Apex Legends game modes guide to learn more.Finisher
Finishers are final moves that Legends can perform to eliminate a downed enemy. Every Legend has different finishers, and a special cutscene will play when you perform one.Focus
Focusing your attacks on one enemy player.Gatekeeping
Gatekeeping refers to when a player or squad tries to block off a specific area so that other players can’t get past them. For example, you might gatekeep an area so an enemy squad can’t enter the Ring without fighting you.GG
GG stands for good game, which is usually said at the end of a match.God spot
The best position in the Ring. For example, an area with lots of cover.Hot drop
A hot drop is an area of a map that attracts a lot of players.In-Game Leader (IGL)
A team’s leader in-game. This term is used frequently in competitive games.Jumpmaster
One person in a squad is chosen to be Jumpmaster. They pick where your squad lands on the map.Knocked
When your Legend is downed and needs a knockdown shield to be revived.Leavers
Players who leave a match early.Meta
Meta stands for the most effective tactic available. You might see players talking about Legend meta or weapon meta when they discuss which Legends, weapons, or strategies they prefer to use.Mirroring
Following another team’s path through an area, usually to pinch them.MnK
MnK stands for mouse and keyboard.Nerf
When the effectiveness or strength of something in-game is reduced. Nerfs can help make gameplay more balanced.Out of bounds (OOB)
Oob or oobing refers to when a player is out of bounds in a non-playable area of the map.Pinching
Moving your squad in front of or behind an enemy squad so they get third partied.Playing edge
Staying near the edge of the zone to try and find and kill other squads, particularly squads who are moving into the zone.Playing zone
Moving inside the next zone early to get a good position.Point of Interest (POI)
Points of Interest are named landmarks on the map. They usually contain large amounts of loot and Supply Bins, so try to land at them when you start a match.Poke
When you keep attacking an enemy from afar to damage their health and armor over time.Pubs
Public matches that aren’t part of Ranked.Ratting
When players hide throughout a match and don’t take part in fights. Ratting is a type of cheating, because players who rat aren’t contributing to the match and may be ratting to artificially boost their Ranked score. Learn more about the rules in Apex Legends and how to report other players.Ring
The Ring is an area on your map that shrinks throughout the match. If you’re outside the Ring, you’ll take damage.Rotate
Moving from one area of the map to another. When you rotate, there are two things you need to keep in mind:- the area of the Ring
- your position to other squads.
Scrim
A scrim (scrimmage) is a practice match. Scrims are usually between competitive players, or advanced players who want to test their skills.Time to kill (TTK)
The amount of time it’ll take to kill an enemy.Third Partied
A situation where two squads are fighting and another team joins in, becoming the third party. This is also known as getting thirded.Thirst
Killing a player that’s been knocked down so you can take their items.TP
Teleporting.Ranked terms

Apex Predators are the top 750 players per platform in the Master rank of Ranked mode.Auras
Auras are cosmetics that show off your rank in-match. Their color always reflects the rank you’re currently at in the current Season.Boosting
When a higher-level player helps a lower-level player quickly level up. Boosting makes Ranked unfair, so we take measures to prevent boosting and other ways of cheating in Ranked. Read about our rules to make sure you’re playing Apex Legends fairly.Matchmaking
The way you’re paired with other players to form squads and matches.Ranked Points (RP)
Ranked Points are the points you earn for taking part in Ranked matches. You also spend RP to take part in Ranked matches.Ranks
The skill level you’re playing at, ranging from Bronze to Master.Items
