Because combat in STAR WARS Zero Company™ is turn-based, you have time to plan each move before committing to it. Using that time to think beyond the current turn and plan ahead can help prevent mistakes or reduce the enemy’s options.Before ending your turn and letting the enemy retaliate, check that:
- each Operator is in a safe position
- no Operator is left exposed
- you’ve used each squad member's AP effectively
- that your squad is prepared for the enemy’s turn
- you have a plan for where enemies are likely to attack from.
Think about what each Operator needs to accomplish during their turn before sending their AP. Make every AP count and try to avoid spending them all on movement unless you have to.
- If an Operator uses too much AP getting into position, they may not have enough left to take action if they need to attack, use an ability, or set up Overwatch.
- This can leave them vulnerable and give the enemy an opportunity to take control of the battlefield.
If an attack has a low Chance-to-Hit, it might not be the most effective way to spend AP in battle.Before committing to an attack, check the Chance-to-Hit percentage displayed next to the target. This lets you know how likely it is that your attack will successfully hit.If your odds aren’t in your favor, consider:
- moving first
- attacking from a different angle
- choosing another target instead.
Use cover to protect your Operators from enemy attacks.Whenever it’s safe to do so, end each Operator’s turn behind cover, especially if they’re likely to be targeted during the enemy’s turn.Be prepared to adapt. Use Overwatch to help you control enemy movement, defend important areas, and protect teammates while they reposition. It can also help cover your squad during the enemy’s turn.Remember: using Overwatch ends that Operator’s turn, so it’s often most effective as their final action.
Although it may seem natural to use abilities as soon as they’re available, it’s often more effective to save them until they’ll have the greatest impact.Consider whether an ability will help your squad immediately, or if saving them will give your squad a greater advantage later.
Try to use your utility items when they can have the biggest impact.Grenades, support items, and other utility equipment can help you damage multiple enemies at once, control the battlefield, or give your squad a tactical advantage.
Advantage gives your squad access to special abilities that can have powerful combat effects.Understanding when to spend or save Advantage can help you have more success on the battlefield.Sometimes, it’s worth saving Advantage for a difficult fight. Other times, spending it early can help eliminate dangerous enemies before they become a threat.
As you bond with your squad, keeping them alive becomes just as important as defeating the enemy.A downed Operator can’t take any actions until another squad member rallies them. That means that until they’re back in the fight, your squad loses access to their abilities and equipment. If Permadeath is turned on, there’s also a risk they’ll be Killed in Action and permanently removed from your squad.To help protect your squad:
- avoid unnecessary risks
- Rally downed teammates as soon as it is safe to do so
- don’t send an Operator into danger alone unless the payoff is worth it.
Your Operators are strongest when they support one another. Here are some tips to help you work together as a squad.
- Use Call for Backup to deal with high-priority targets.
- Combine Abilities for greater impact.
- Position your squad strategically so Operators can support one another throughout the battle.
- Rather than having each Operator act independently in battle, try focusing your squad on a shared objective. For example:
- one Operator could draw enemy attention
- another Operator could set up Overwatch
- a third Operator could follow up with an attack.
Prioritize enemies that pose the greatest threat to your squad. If you spread your attacks across multiple enemies, you may not deal enough damage to defeat any of them. Focusing your attacks on one enemy at a time can help your squad eliminate threats more efficiently and help your squad gain control of the battle.That might mean targeting enemies that:

- can break your squad’s position
- threaten a Downed Operator
- are blocking your path to the mission objective.
