What are Specializations in STAR WARS Zero Company™?

Specializations determine an Operator’s combat role, strengths, and unique abilities.All Operators have a Specialization, and you can choose or change Specializations for Hawks and any Custom Operators you recruit. Authored Operators have assigned Talents that you can’t change, and some Authored Operators have Specializations that you can’t change.Every Specialization includes a unique set of abilities that helps define how an Operator performs in battle.

How do abilities work in STAR WARS Zero Company™?

Each Specialization includes three types of abilities.
  • Ultimate Ability
    • This is a Specialization’s most powerful ability.
    • They can have a major impact on the battle and are best used at the right moment.
  • Standard Ability
    • This is an active ability you can use during combat to attack enemies, support allies, or gain a tactical advantage.
  • Passive Ability
    • These are always-active abilities.
    • They automatically provide bonuses or effects battle without needing to be activated.
Most abilities cost Action Points (AP) to use. Sometimes, you’ll need to use special abilities to defeat more powerful enemies. These special abilities cost Advantage instead of AP. Advantage is a shared resource that your squad can earn as a battle progresses. Check out our turn-based tactics and combat basics guide to learn how Advantage works in STAR WARS Zero Company™.

How does Weapon Class work in STAR WARS Zero Company™ ?

In STAR WARS Zero Company™, all weapons belong to a Weapon Class that determines how it performs in battle.Every Weapon Class has its own strengths and weaknesses that influence performance, like how much damage it can cause and its attack range.To understand how each Weapon Class performs in battle, check its combat stats.
Column 1Column 2
Combat statDefinition
Weapon DamageThe amount of damage dealt by the weapon when attacking.
Critical Hit DamageThe additional damage applied when an attack Critically Strikes.
Critical ChanceThe chance the weapon has of critically striking a target for extra damage.
RangeThe optimal weapon range for combat. Attacking outside of this range incurs a Strike Penalty.
Using your weapon in combat costs Action Points (AP), but the AP cost depends on its Weapon Class. Some weapons leave you with enough AP to move or use abilities after firing, while others might use most or all of your available AP.The player has selected an Operator. On the right, there’s a description of their Final Action attack.

Which Weapon Class should I choose?

If you’re unsure which Weapon Class to choose for Hawks or a Custom Operator, think about how you want your Operator to fight and which weapon best complements their Specialization.Here are the Specializations available in STAR WARS Zero Company™, what they’re best suited for, how much AP they cost to use, and the combat stats of each one.

Which Specialization and Weapon Class suits my playstyle?

Still not sure which Specialization or Weapon Class to pick? Consider choosing based on how you like to play, or your level of experience. Later in the game, you’ll be able to choose an additional specialization for your Operators. Think about combos that’ll boost each Operator’s skills and unique character.

If you’re new to turn-based tactics games

  • Specialization:
    • Soldier or Assault
  • Weapon Class:
    •  Blaster Rifle.
  • These options focus on straightforward combat and can help you learn the basics of positioning, movement, and attacking.

If you want to deal as much damage as possible

  • Specialization:
    • Gunslinger, Soldier, or Heavy
  • Weapon Class:
    • Repeater
  • These combinations focus on offensive pressure and defeating enemies by using powerful attacks or weapons.

If you prefer long-range combat

  • Specialization:
    • Sharpshooter
  • Weapon Class:
    • Longarm Blaster

  • Specialization:
    • Assault or Gunslinger
  • Weapon Class:
    • Blaster Pistol
  • Assault specializes in staying mobile on the battlefield, while Gunslinger focuses on quick attacks that let you keep up the pressure during your turn.
  • The Blaster Pistol costs less AP to use than some other weapons, so pairing either Specialization with it gives you more flexibility to move, reposition, attack, or use abilities.

If you enjoy planning and tactical decision-making

  • Specialization:
    • Scout or Scoundrel
  • These Specializations reward careful timing, positioning, and creating opportunities for your squad.

If you prefer supporting your squad

  • Specialization:
    • Medic
  • This Specialization focuses on healing allies, preventing injuries, and helping your squad stay in the fight.
  • Your primary focus as a Medic is keeping your squad in the fight, so you don’t need to commit to a specific Weapon Class. Choose one that lets you stay close enough to support your teammates while remaining safe.
