  1. Make sure the console is picking up both controllers and that the Xbox symbol light is lit for both players. Series S and X users may have to plug the second controller into the front USB port. Heads-up that you’ll need at least two users (gamertags) created on your console and a controller assigned to each gamertag.
  2. From the DIRT 5 menu, the second player needs to press and hold the View button.
  3. Choose the gamertag (which must be different from player one).
  4. You’ll each get a message letting you know that the second player is now in the game with you.
  5. Go to the Arcade option of the game. If Time Trial appears to be grayed out, the game has registered that there are two players and you’ll know you’ve entered split-screen mode. If it isn’t grayed out, repeat step 2.
  6. Choose Freeplay and adjust the settings how you like. Make sure you have two-player mode enabled.
  1. Each player must complete the first tutorial race.
    • Split-screen won’t work on PlayStation 5 unless every player’s console is online and every player completes the first tutorial race.
  2. Make sure the console is picking up both controllers and that the PlayStation symbol light is lit for both players. Heads-up that you’ll need at least two player accounts created on your console and a controller assigned to each player.

  4. Choose the user account.
  5. You’ll each get a message letting you know that the other player has joined the game.
  6. Go to the Arcade option of the game. If Time Trial appears to be grayed out, the game has registered that there are two players and you’ll know you’ve entered split-screen mode. If it isn’t grayed out, repeat step 3.
  7. Choose Freeplay and adjust the settings how you like. Make sure you have two-player mode enabled.

  2. In the top-right corner, you’ll see which button you need to press on your controller next to JOIN SPLITSCREEN.
  3. Do this for each player. Once a player is added, you’ll see the icon in the top-right corner of your screen.

  5. Choose Freeplay and adjust the settings how you like. Make sure you have two-player mode enabled.
